    Budućnost are playing Metalac, the new team in the league, at the season's start. The Montenegro team have a top level team this season, and will be one of the shadow favorites to win the ABA league. There are several reasons why I chose the under on away team. First, there is the power of the Budućnost team, who will have to show their supporters what they can expect this season, and will certainly be highly motivated and playing at full throttle from the very start. All players have yet to prove they deserve playtime to coach Jovović, and will take the match very seriously. Metalac have to find their bearings in the atmosphere of Morača arena, and I count on them shaking a bit due to their youth and the aggressive Budućnost defense. A handicap seems to be a good option, but as this is the first round and Budućnost might struggle with scoring, I decided on away team's under. Details

    Looking at quality defenses, both Dijon and Le Mans have some of the best in the league. When after a game won 66-63 the Dijon coach calls his team's defense good but not optimal and does not speak a word about offense, you get the idea what the focus is. Dijon played a 129 point match against Reims, who had the best offense in the second league last season and are focused primarily on offense. Today they'll face an opponent with a mirroring philosophy, Le Mans are shaken and are coming here to recover. Kunter is struggling to assemble the offense as almost the entire backbone of the team left in the summer, and it will be some time before he puts it back together again. The defense seems to be doing much better, and there is no doubt they will try to win through tough defending. The possible absence of Joseph works for this bet, and even if he were to play, it will be far from his best. Borg complains about absences and a tough schedule, one can expect him to slow down the pace and this could easily be a standard duel of these two teams, ending at 120-130 points. Details

    Both clubs have had a tough summer, but I think Kvarner has done a better job fighting with all the problems they experienced. A new coach took over at Jolly just before the start to the season and he's not yet sure what to expect of his team. Kvarner's coach Mance says they've done 80 training sessions, and their preparation games weren't bad at all. If this game was taking place mid-season, I would maybe have doubts about the outcome. But, not today. Kvarner seem to be the better-quality team, they are always tough home, and confidence is running high as well. That is what Jolly lack following 9 defeats in 10 preseason games.     Surprises are always possible in France, but I see this as a one way street. Nancy swept away Gravelines a few days ago, demolishing them in an away match, and now they're playing their first home match. They do even better in front of their own crowd, and lost only five home matches last year, mostly close ones against elite opponents, while they easily beat opponents such as this one. Bourg simply have nothing to parry with, they're a disaster on offense ever since the preparations started. They scored just 56 against Chalon, and Nancy are certainly capable of limiting them to below 60. The rookie team in the league have kept almost the same roster they had last season, are in serious injury problems and currently seem to be the worst team in the league. Le Havre came to visit and had a +20 lead by halftime, while Chalon easily beat them by +24. Nancy are way above both of those teams right now and I expect a similar, if not even better score. There will be no relaxation, as Nancy have a 0-1 score in the championship, regardless of the victory on Wednesday. They started of with a loss against Limoges, and Weisz is well aware that another fumble would bring him problems at the very start. I expect them to play hardball defense from the start, in which case Bourg don't stand a chance. Chalon's inner lineup demolished them, so will Nancy's , and the only chance for Bourg here is to limit Nancy to under 70 points. However, as Weisz has a stronger offense than last year, I doubt that will happen... Details

    Obradoiro held on to their defensive strategist, while Manresa, after staying in the league only because Burgos could not play in the ACB league, brought in Pedro Martinez, who did great things with Gran Canaria in the past seasons, regularly getting to the playoff and even the league semifinal two seasons ago. Those who followed us in the past seasons are familiar with the way Granca played and are well aware that defense is the basis of Martinez's playbook. They struggled in the preparations, allowing their opponents as much as 90 points at times, but this was caused by the fact they were late to put the team together and they have yet to reach their optimum. The last preparation match they had against Barcelona as part of the Catalan League semifinal hints at better times. They lost 82-66, and can consider it a success that they reduced Barca to just 82 points. Today they'll be missing two point guards, which will hamper their offense, and the rest of the team is not geared towards scoring much or winning games at 80 points. Obradoiro have had an easier preparation period, playing through it with a full roster, and if their first point guard Luz were not absent, this would be an ideal situation. They won all 7 of their prep matches, five of those under 150 points, and the remaining two against Benfica and Aalstar, whom they buried under 90+ points. Losing Luz means Pozas, a slower and more steady point guard, will be promoted to a starter. They've been playing proper defense under Fernandez for years now, and putting all that together, we should not see more than 150 points here. Details

    Glogow are in serious trouble and that should be taken advantage of. This morning it was officially confirmed Gujski, important on both ends, will be absent. They also miss Lucak, which is the biggest problem, as well as Kubala and Bak. Most of the burden will fall on Babicz, who came here from the very Pulawy they face now, so his former teammates will be well aware what to expect from him. Pulawy are currently bottom ranked, but that is due to them facing the top 4 teams. Now they're going to face teams down to their size, and one of them is Glogow, who won two matches against teams who will fight to avoid relegation. Pulawy are a much better team, led by the experienced Dragan Marković, they've replaced many players but there is still quality, as they've shown against Wisla. Glogow on the other hand managed to embarrass themselves against Slask with an appalling performance, losing against the team most of the league will steamroll. This is a great chance for Pulawy, and should be backed by a medium sized bet. Glogow are missing too many important players, which should make it even easier for the away team. Details

    Canarias are entering their third season among the elite, and beat Sevilla in three of the four matches played in the previous two. I believe they have a great shot at winning this one as well, as their team was kept together and all the main players are here, including shooter Richotti, Blanco, Rosto, Lampropoulos, and Sikma, while they pulled a great move by bringing back center Sekulić, whom they won the King's Cup last season. This setup proved to be doing great during preparations, I expect this to be confirmed tonight. Sevilla reconstructed their team, brought the great Aito Garcia, an American coach, which surprised many, as the man isn't even licenced for the ACB league. A much bigger problem is the fact that their first point guard arrived only recently, has not played a single game of the preparation period, and it remains to be seen how he reacts. Although he has quality, Pullen will take time. They have an incredibly young inner lineup, after losing a bunch of players from their starting five (Satoransky, Bamforth, Mata, Landry...). I expect this to be a close match, and there is simply no logical reason to favor the team who barely managed to beat Benfica in preparations to such an extent. Details

    German third tier Mainz-Bretzenheim has three wins in the three opening rounds, the last one from a derby match of this division with FC Koln 35-27. They are one of the prime candidates for promotion to the second division. Nellingen are holding position 7 in the second division at the moment, on a 1-1-1 record after three rounds. There are few reasons to believe Mainz will beat them today to advance to German Cup third round. Reason no. 1 - they beat TV Beyerohde, another second tier team, 33-28 in the Cup first round. Beyerohde are currently one spot above Nellingen in the table. Besides, Mainz-Bretzenheim beat another second tier Mainz 05 18-13 in preseason. On top of that, Bretzenheim have a lot of players to choose from, and Nellingen are, with an average age of 22, less experienced than the opponent. Bretzenheim have changed almost nothing during the summer, only Hermenau joined from a top division team Bensheim. Leukfeld, who was one of the top players in younger German national teams, has also joined. All of that, plus the fact they're playing home is making Bretzenheim's win worth of the set stakes.     Turkey's win over Russia made the bookmakers set the odds a bit too low for their win against the Netherlands. It's the meeting with no pressure of winning for the both teams, which means we're in for a good match. 4 sets should be played today, and the margin at total number of points is low enough to bet on an over here. Turkey have had gone over this margin in only one of the matches at this margin. It was against Serbia (176 points). The Dutch won a set against Brazil, had to get at least one against Serbia but failed in the end. Turkey are not as good as either of those team, and the Dutch team can definitely win a set here at leas. The odds at that are around 1.35. The preparation games suggest they could even win this, since they beat Turkey twice home back then. One of those matches were settled in five sets, the other one in 4 (175 points were scored in the latter). Their official head-to-head meeting at last year's EC, that was settled after five sets, is another reason for this bet. Details

    Jastrzebski are not doing well early in the season, especially against 'small' teams such as BBTS. BBTS were not good last year, but still managed to get a set in Jastrzebie Zdroj. The head to head meeting at their arena was settled in five sets. BBTS this season are far from their last season's performances, their are much better now, with quite a few good signings on the team. Pilarz and Ferens joined from ZAKSA, receiver Kapelus from Lokomotiv Kharkov, while Sobar joined from Sobal. BBTS managed to keep opposite Gonzales, who had a very good WC with Argentina. Jastrzebski lost their coach Bernardi, the key figure on the team. Kubiak left as well. Jastrzebski are not at their last season's level, I don't think they're at their best since they need more time to get used to the new coach. BBTS are stronger and I believe that visitors can get a set tonight. Details

    Honestly, I expected lower odds on Germany to win. Preparation matches prior to this championship in which the Germans demolished Belgium three times, are the main factor for this bet. Those were the final tests prior to the championship, and Germany seemed to be doing way better than Belgium. They never lost a set, and won two with a 24 small points difference, and one with 21. Both teams started all matches with their strongest lineups. Compared to those, Germany are missing Karg here, while Belgium arrived without Aelbrecht, whose absence is more important, as Belgium are not performing very well in Italy and have so far left less of an impression than Germany. Much depends on how Van Hecke performs, which a great coach such as Guidetti will be able to counter. I don't expect him to change the roster today either. Germany was expected to do more here, perhaps even fight for a medal, which is why the coach said they will go for a win in the two remaining matches, to improve the poor impression they left up to now. Germany beat Belgium in important matches last season, while the Belgians openly say they cannot remember the last time they beat the Germans. On top of all that, the match will be played in Trieste, where Germany have already played two matches, while Belgium are arriving from Bari and had to spend part of yesterday on the trip. The Germans won seven matches in a row against Belgium, beating them when they performed much better than today, and I see no reason they should not today. The points handicap is really small if one considers the friendly matches played less than a month ago. If you don't want to tally up points in the end, play Germany to win on an accumulation bet. Many claimed that an offense-oriented game is a risk in the top division, coach Pearson wasn't ready to give up on it and that is proving to be a good decision. His team have done good, even against the greatest English teams such as Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. They can be more than happy for now since they performances suggest they don't have to fear relegation. They now face what is supposed to be the easiest opponent. it is another promoted club Burnley. They have scored one goal in the first six rounds. On top of not having any great players, Burnley can't count on their two defenders today. Some other starting lineup players are out as well. They're in for a tough away game today against an opponent who will have three forwards in the line up.If Leicester manage to score an early goal, Burnley will have to take more risk, which should only make it easier for the home team to create attempts.
    The odds at Leicester's win seem good because there are almost no reasons that would suggest Burnley being able to stand up to them today. They have no offense potential, with their defense having done horribly in the last round as well. This one could be very similar to it. Details

    Gazprom Ugra are the favorite today according to the bookmaker, only I can't really understand why. Granted, Fakel are a weaker team in financial troubles, but they're still a team that can reach the play off. Fakel's Bakun and Kolodinski are two great players, Krasnikov as well, just like their blockers Likhosherstov and Kritsky. While Fakel worked on getting the team function together well, Ugra waited for some players (Rodichev, Aleksiev, and Todorov) to get back on the team. Rodichev admits he is not 100% ready yet, and Ugra are not the same team without him. Aleksiev did only three sets so far, Todorov two games, while the home team did 13 or 14 games, giving themselves enough time for practicing. I think the bookmakers took the financial problems Fakel are currently experiencing into consideration when setting the odds. But, money does not play the games, the player do. I expected Fakel to be the favorite, that would be logical thing. Home team's win,therefore, certainly has value. Ugra have never won in Novy Urengoy and I don't' think they will today. Details

They cannot parry Esbjerg by running with them, and trying would be disastrous, as the fact they had a Cup match three days ago while Esbjerg rested also works against them. What could bring a positive result, and is one of their strengths is naturally defense. Sos Soby is a dominant figure on the goal, having secured herself a spot on Denmark's A team with her performances lately, while the central defensive positions are held by experienced and strong Spellerberg, Bonde Pedersen i Holmgaard. Kopenhagen have had five unders at this margin in their last six matches, they have not had a match over 45 goals at home, they limited the great Midtylland to 20 and 22 goals in the to matches they played against them, and if they are to get at least a point out of this Esbjerg must be limited to these margins.     Serbia were very close to beating Turkey and getting through to semi finals last night. They gave their best, but lost 61-62 in the end. Coach Maljkovic was very disappointed, as were all of her players after that game. She said the defeat stings, and that they didn't even think about fighting for position 5-8. She also said she doesn't know what to do about her team's mental state. They match yeterday was exhausting, especially the key players. They play in the earliest slot today, and their key players might not be in for the whole match. China didn't stand a chance against Spain, who seem to be the best team next to the US. Their starting five players spent more time on the bench than on the court in that game. They are certainly not as tired as Serbian players, and they almost beat Serbia in the group stage. I'm sure China will play as if this were the key match. Details
