In my opinion, the Habs' odds are too highly set. Calgary did manage not to lose all of their three matches in regulation time, which nobody expected, and that is why we have these odds. Calgary are in the process of rebuilding after getting rid of their experienced players, who carried them forward. Their goalkeeping line is very thin, their first attacking line would probably be a third line in other teams, while their defence is inexperienced and full of holes. The thing they showed in the three matches and what brought them points is character. Their mental approach to each game was good and they were awarded for that. Not Washington, not Columbus, not Vancouver could match them in that area . But the bottom line is, they don't have quality. This can be seen by the fact they ended up losing two of the three matches after leading 4-1 in Washington and 3-1 against the Canucks. Montreal took a step forward last year, and they are extremely strong this year. They have some injury problems in the defence, leaving them with only three back lines, but all three of those are extremely strong. This is only their third match of the season, so there is no issue with fatigue. Price will be at the goal, and he is better than any of the Flames goalies. Their offence is extremely strong, especially since Pacioretty will return, which makes them even stronger compared to the last match. I think Montreal are a highly likely favourite, and they will win the match with the right approach. Nobody has beaten Lemgo away this season but I believe they will have their first defeat today. Their right back Rolf Hermann is their most important player and he is missing today and so are several other important players. It was obvious against Flensburg that Lemgo are in trouble without Hermann, especially against great defenses. I've written about this last week, you could see that against Melsungen and Göppingen who, like Flensburg, know how to play a tough 6-0. Löwen have all of this and can even do better, with a great Landino between the sticks. This is their first game after four consecutive away games, they need the points to make up for their draws as they are lagging behind Kiel. Trentino were dominating every aspect of the Italian volleyball in the last seasons. This season will be different since these are no longer the same Trentino that won everything they possibly could. Coach who created the super team, Stoyhcev, left the club after six years. He decided to take Turskish club Halkbank over and took Trentino's key players along - Kaziyski, Juantoren, Djuric, and Raphael. Stokr, Bari, Uchikov, and Chrtianksy Jr. left the club as well. Only five players from last seasons are still there, Italian internationals Birarelli, Lanza, and Burgsthaler are among the ones worth mentioning. Brilliant Tsvetan Sokolov can be regarded as a good signing, but the rest of the team are just not there. Macerata have been through changes as well, but not as much as Trentino. Savani, Travica, and Pajenk left the team, but the players that were brought in to replace them are considered to be even better. Setter Baranowicz has a lot of talent, and the fact he's acquainted with Zaytsev, Parodi, and Kovar from the national team is a great advantage. Great receiver Kurek stepped in for Savani. Blocking duo Podrascanin-Stankovic are already working together well, but also with the other three national team players who all know each other very well. Macerata are at this point the team that work together much better. They are playing the role of the favorite for the championship title for a reason. Trentino are third with much worse odds. Both teams only had a few days to prepare with the whole team, and that is why Macerata's better teamwork should surface as an advantage, and decide the match. Telekom are a typical home team who were close to winning in the first round against powerful Bayern. They scored more than 80 points in that match, and Bayern's faster pace certainly suited them since they try to play as fast as possible transition as well, lead by their point guard Jared Jordan. That is why their opponent today should suit them as well. Rasta Vecha proved in the first few rounds that they will stick to their game - short attacks, and many three point attempts...Their problem is second worst efficiency in the league. Trier, who are not particular oriented on offense, managed to score 84 point against them in the first round. Rasta's centers are not that good and that is a segment which Telekom should be dominating over thanks to their tall players who move swiftly. Haslum currently have an average somewhat over 59 but the 65 in the Cup should be taken into consideration there. Concerning the league, they ended the matches on 55, 59 and 58 against teams very similar to Arendal. The away team are dictating the set margin but realistically they can do more than that. They scored Runar 18 in the first half and then fell apart in the second. After that a rise against Stord was expected but they lost although they scored 27. As I expect Haslum on 30+, to go over the offered margin it is enough for Arendal to score 24 and I think they are capable enough for that. If Falk, Follo and the second league team Sandefjord did it, then they can certainly do it too. They had enough time to consolidate their play and today they should look better. Mega Vizura travel to Pionir Arena after a defeat against Cedevita against which they scored only 62 points on their home court. Partizan left offensively more potent Igokea on 56 points in the first game and showed they are again the strongest defensive team. Mega Vizura are a very young team and I think they will be a bit under the impression of the atmosphere in Belgrade since this is their first season in ABA league and their hands will be a bit shaky. Traditionally Partizan have a slower offensive start into to the season, but their defense is always at the top level. I opted for the following bet: under for Mega Vizura since this is a better bet than a handicap because of that slow offensive start I mentioned for Partizan, although it is possible that Partizan will go over the handicap since Mega Vizura never came close to them in last four years. Bodo are again playing against one of the weakest team in the league, at least according to what they showed so far. I will try to use that once again. In last round I recommended a win with two or more goal differential, but Falk proved to be a tough nut to crack at home, although Bodo had their chances. Today Bodo are playing at home against nominally weaker opponents, the atmosphere in the team is good and a win is expected. Follo are still searching their play and are still without a win in this season. Their offense does not function well and Bodo should use that to create some easy goals from counterattacks, as they did against Elverun. The handicap is set lower that I initially expected. If we take into account current plays and what both teams showed so far, Bodo are to me absolute favorites in this game. Details
