PAOK players believe they are better than ARIS

Aris are relying again on their excellent defense while PAOK ,who have quality, will try to exact revenge for the recent defeat in the cup

We will watch the great derby of the northern Greece for the second time in ten days. The first one was more important considering that it was the quarterfinals of the cup, but when these two teams play every match is equally important. Or even the most important. Especially if you ask the son of Aris' coach Agelou, who made journalist laugh before the cup game when he told them that his son has informed him that he can loose any other game, but not two games against PAOK at the beginning of the season. Agelou has done the first part of the job and he has the second part ahead of him at the home court which is an advantage.

- We have greatly surprised everybody by winning the away game in the cup, but we can't let it carry us away. We have played this game perfectly, completely concentrated with a top defense. We need to repeat that today if we want to win.

After leaving PAOK at 63 points, Aris basketball player have performed even better in the defense during the championship game against Dramas which was confined to 58 points and they confirmed what their coach said about their defense being their biggest strength this season. We shouldn't expect anything different either today.

- Everything will depend again upon our defense and the sacrifices we are willing to make. We need to play like we played during the first two games of the season, when we have shown  incredible teamwork and this has resulted in the victory. PAOK may have individual players of better quality, but we have a solution for that - said Pekelanos, the best player in the Aris team.

A defense was also PAOK's main characteristics last season. We used the past tense in that sentence since they played with many points during the first games of this season, except during the above mentioned game against Aris. They have scored 170 points against Kolossos and Buducnost, but it needs to be mentioned that they had almost incredible shooting percentage in both games and that it's difficult to believe they can play like that whole season.

The victory against Kolossos was important for recovery after a difficult elimination by Aris in the cup, and the game against Buducnost has shown that they have completely recovered. During this game they played basketball great and at the end they won thanks to Cooper who scored a buzzer beater.

- I congratulate my players since they have beaten an excellent team and they haven't stopped believing in victory during whole 40 minutes. This will improve our confidence greatly and you will see that in the following games - coach Markopoulos said after the victory.

After these two games with many points we can expect again one warlike game. This derby was always more than a simple match and both coaches are well known for forcing the defense above all. PAOK's strategist believes that the cup game will not be repeated:

- We can't play again that bad. We were stopped by the pressure and we didn't react well. Last victories have improved the morale of the team and you will see better PAOK already today. It will be very important how we will react to a full arena, but we have more than enough of experienced players in order to do it properly.

Tsairelis has analyzed the meeting from the players' point of view. According to his words we could conclude that PAOK's players are hoping for revenge:

- We need to exact revenge for a defeat in our arena. We have seen them then and we know we can play a lot better against them. If our performance is on the same level as in the last two games I believe we can reach the victory.

PAOK is a favorite in any case, not only due the quality of the team, but also due to their performances lately. Still, Aris's defense, combined with a hot atmosphere shouldn't be underestimated and we have probably another real derby ahead of us.

These two teams played a Cup game about ten days ago, which Aris won despite playing away. Aris will even have the support of their fans today, but I still don't see them as the favorites in this match the way the betting houses are suggesting. The quality level definitely favors PAOK. They are aware of that as well, as all the players mentioned, when talking prior to the match, that they wanted to get some revenge over Aris, since they felt to have been stronger in the Cup game, but just could not make anything happen. In their following games vs Kolossos and Buducnost, PAOK displayed their potential, and a scenario in which they repeat the poor performance from the Cup game is almost unimaginable. As for the influence of the crowd, PAOK guys pointed out that their fans even made them nervous in the first derby, and that led them to play poorer than expected. They should therefore be less burdened today, and that is why I see them as favorites in this match, and I'm taking a handicap as a safety, which is definitely a better option than a clean win for the away team.
