Cibona decimated and in financial difficulties coming to Belgrade

Marjanović and Katić will have enough space under the rim as Cibona are without a real center and since Jenning and Strawberry are leaving after this game, their motivation in this game is questionable

The ABA league leaders have two impressive Euroleague games and a defeat in Skopje behind them and they are now facing a derby against Cibona in which a win is imperative to make a new step towards their first minor goal and that is to be the top team come New Year. On the other hand, Cibona are coming to Belgrade, they were knocked out of Europe, the debts are piling up and no one even knows what squad they will use today.

Zvezda have defeated Lietuvos Rytas away b in the last round of Euroleague and they scored 99 points. It was a complete opposite of the game from the last round of the ABA league in which they lost against MZT scoring only 58 points.

- We want to get back to the winning ways after the defeat in Skopje. On the other hand, Cibona are doing well in terms of results. Based on their games so far, they are quite deservedly in the top echelons. After all, they only have 1 win less than we do. However, now their quality is overshadowed by the talk about their problems within the club. I think this situation represents a danger for us, especially since this is a team with an undoubted quality and they will be without pressure against us - said Dejan Radonjić, Zvezda's coach, before the game.

Radonjić is certainly happy about the fact that Boba Marjanović has been playing well against Rytas. After that game, he was named MVP of that Euroleague round and it's a huge recognition for him. He will have plenty of space in this game along with Katić. Cibona are without Žižić and Planinić which means he will be guarded by Kuridža who is shorter than him or young Arapović who is both shorter and less experienced. Dario Šarić tends to play as the center here or there, but Marjanović and Katić shouldn't have too many problems with him since he wears himself down playing in both directions.

- The first goal is not to allow our opponents to start playing and allowing their lack of pressure to gain full momentum. We have to be fully motivated and concentrated in order to get the points in front of our fans. According to the information we have, Cibona will have the same squad as in the last Eurocup game and we are preparing for that. A bigger problem is that we didn't have too much time to prepare but we all know what we have to do to win - Radonjić concluded.

Zvezda cannot count on Luka Mitrović who has only removed his cast recently after his long-term injury and has only started his rehabilitation.

Considering that the Wolves have been very poor in Europe, they have decided to focus on the regional competition in which they aim to get to Final Four. Because of that, they are not going to Belgrade with a white flag in their mind, even though the home team are the favorites in any case. Especially since Cibona have major problems with their squad caused by the financial difficulties and the piled up debt. 

Cibona played their last Eurocup game in Cantu with only 10 players in the squad, without a real center and this will be the case here. In addition, an information appeared yesterday that the game against Zvezda will be the last for Jenning and Strawberry who will look for a new club after it. It is questionable how this will affect their performance but judging by the latest information, it is certain they will lay and leave afterwards.

However, those information have to be taken lightly as their motivation and playing time is questionable in this game. The fact that they are leaving and will be watched by the representatives of potential future clubs might play a role in this game and make them want to present themselves in the best possible light. The only foreign player that wants to stay until the end of the season is Blassinagame.

- They're in good form and it will not be easy in Belgrade. Our roster is not completely defined and I don't know what squad we are going to use. The situation is complicated and from now on every win in the ABA League is a success. Zvezda's players will definitely be motivated to give us a good "pounding". The situation is complicated but I see it as a valuable experience that will help me in the future. You need to know how to adapt. I am a Cibona's child. I care about the club and I want to know where this club ends up in a few years. If this is a way to become better in the future, I have the willpower to handle this situation - said Slaven Rimac, Cibona's coach ahead of their Belgrade trip.

The words of their coach reflect the difficult situation in the club very well but they will not want to be cannon fodder against Zvezda and they vowed to fight until the end.

- We will certainly give our best to stay in the game as much as possible. Our will is never in question and whoever goes out on the court will give his best - concluded Rimac.

Cibona are coming to Belgrade in huge problems. They have no real centers in this game as they are without Žižić and Planinić and Zvezda are very strong there with Marjanović and Katić and they will certainly attack through those players. The second thing that speaks in favor of this bet is the fact that Zvezda really want to win here and get the first spot after the first part of the ABA League and coach Radonjić will not allow his players to relax. Zvezda are particularly strong in every position, they are playing good basketball, especially in Pionir and I think Cibona will not have an easy task here. Cibona are focused on the second part of the season, it remains to be seen who will stay in the club an who will depart, the wages have been late for months and the situation is generally very poor. They ended the game against Cantu with -24 and I expect something similar today.
