Nedovyesov plays his first ATP Tour match of the career at the age of 26

Golubev was on the brink of the Top 30 three years ago, but he's been struggling since to reach the Top 100 again. The Ukrainian is also 26 years old and on the verge of the Top 100, but he's playing his first ATP Tour level match of the career.

Three years ago, Golubev played Hamburg final. During that season, he had more than 20 ATP Tour level wins and was on the verge of the Top 30. His success didn't last so about 10 months later Golubev was outside the Top 100. He's still trying to come back.

Golubev became a citizen of Kazakhstan and secured much better working environment. He's also been playing well in Davis Cup matches, but has only started to play better at ATP level this season. Although he's much more experienced now, he's still sticking to his style of play. Golubev still plays aggressively and has lots of ups and downs, but he's beginning to find the right balance. He showed that in qualifying rounds. Although the Kazakh didn't play against a Top 200 player, he was quite consistent. He only faced three break points in three matches and showed that slower indoor conditions are much more suited for his game.

Nedovyesov is also 26 years old, but he's never reached the Top 100. His career is at its high at the moment. Last year, he played at the ITF level tournaments where he won four singles and seven doubles titles, mostly with Sergeyev.

This is his breakthrough season and he has the clay court season to thank for that. Nedovyesov won his first challenger in Prague, but his greatest achievement came in Szczecin. It's a challenger of the highest rank where the winner receives 125 points. In comparison, the winner here is awarded with 250 points in spite of a much fiercer competition. That title enabled him to fight for a ranking inside the Top 100.

- I'm very pleased with the result here. I'm going to rest now and afterwards I'm leaving for Tashkent. I'm on the verge of the Top 100 and I hope I'll be able to secure a position in the main draw of Australian Open - said the Ukrainian after the biggest success of his career.

He went through qualifications here despite being in all kinds of troubles in the last round. He was the second seed and had much better ranking than Geramisov, but in the end the third set tie-break made all the difference. The Ukrainian lost the second set in spite of breaking his opponent three times, but in the end he was far more concentrated. Although he's battling to breach the Top 100, this is his first ATP Tour level match of the career. Given the fact that he's secured it at 26 years of age, it can be said that he's a late bloomer.

Although they're both 26 years old, and close in rankings, they are extremely different players. Nedovyesov started seriously playing on challengers only this year, and here he earned the first ATP match in his career. Golubev is a former Top 35 player, and he always suffered from severe oscillations, but these conditions suit him perfectly. Moreover, he achieved an indoor ATP win against Struff a month ago, and he took a set from Istomin. The Ukrainian prefers clay. In the last round of the qualifiers, he lost his service five times, barely winning the match in the tie-break in the third set. Golubev finished the qualifiers without losing a single set.
