The Netherlands know how to play against France, two wins in three months on two significant tournaments (WC 2015 quarter-finals and OG 2016 Qualification Tournament , 24-17) in which the Dutch demonstrated higher speed, bigger physical and mental strength. What's specific from those two matches against France is the impressive saves by goalkeeper Tess Wester (34 saves in two matches) and the flexible and very aggressive wall in front of her goal who allowed the French to record only 12 in the first and nine in the second match and after the first 30 minutes they solve the bigger part of the job. The Dutch are known by a lot of creativeness in the offense, but in the last year Groener has worked a lot of defense efficiency. In the eve of the OG in Rio, the Netherlands played three matches on a strong control tournament in the Netherlands, and the defense efficiency was as follows: nine allowed to Sweden, 11 to Russia and only eight to Montenegro. After arriving to Brazil, they played two matches against the home team, in the first match in which there was a maximum number of rotations on both sides they allowed 17, in the other in which both teams were serious - 11. France are definitely a team whose defense and goalkeepers are their best weapons, while their problems lie in the offense, so in total the winner today will be decided by the better defense. The Netherlands are the favorites for winning and that's one of the options for this match, and the best one is the limiting the French offense in the first half. Details

For the cadettes, the fifth place match at the World Championship has far greater meaning for Hungary, and out of several reasons. Hungary came to the WC in Slovakia as the bronze team from last year's EC U 17 (France ended up seventh), and with the ambition to get a medal. They are the only team who were both individually, team-wise and result-wise able to stand up to Denmark and Russia in the last two years, who dominate at this level. At this WC their record is six wins (not one was less than six goals of difference) and one defeat. Their only flop was in the WC quarter-finals where they lost to Norway with 27-28. They're mentally strong for this level, and they showed that in yesterday's match for the placement from fifth to eighth place with an almost double-digit difference versus Croatia (31-22), and they announced they will fully head into today's fuel for the fifth place. France have already three defeats on this WC behind themselves; two minimum wins against Romania (30-29), and last night against Sweden (28-26). Those same Sweden Hungary ate for breakfast in the group phase with 33-21. At the EC U-17 at almost the same time last year Hungary beat France in the main phase of the tournament with 28-24, by half-time they had five goals of advantage (15-10). Hungary have players who already have serious senior minutes (Hornyak, Hafra, Klujber), and another important thing for this last match at this WC is that France have lost two starters in these playoffs. Middle back Nocandy and right wing Deba were injured and they were switched during the tournament, Deba after the fourth match and Nocandy after the defeat by Russia in the quarter-finals. The latter has been replaced with a goalkeeper, which means that France in the last two matches has been with one player less in their rotations. Details

Both teams secured a spot in semis after two opening wins. They are now to face off for the top spot in the group. Switzerland have better goal difference and a draw would be enough for them here. This is a mix of two generations (1997 and 1998). Spain were dominant at previous tournaments with both generations (runner ups at U-17 2014 EC, runner-ups at U-17 2014, first spot at U-17 EC 2015) while the Swiss generation of 1997 couldn't be too happy with the results as they lost convincingly to top teams. The only from 1998 last season played the EC U-17 final. That generation with 7 players on this team is why they are doing so well in Slovakia this season. The final from U17 EC is one of the arguments for this tip. Spain beat the Swiss 5-2 in that final, settling things just 13 minutes into the game when they took a 2-0 lead. Another reason are efficiency and performances here. Spain have more shots than anyone else (38, 13 on target) and have 13 players who already play for senior teams. They scored under three goals just once this season. Swiss have a total of 24 shots, 15 on target. They were particularly efficient in the second round against the favorites from Germany. They scored 4 goals against them for a big win in over and for the spot in semis. The Swiss have already done great and they will be without any pressure today. Spain will go after the win that would secure the top spot for them. Their previous results guarantee a potential rerun of last season's U17 EC final. Details

There was never lack of motivation for Korea, and there won't be in these two games for the placement between 5th and 8th position, especially because they will end like a generation that failed to repeat the great success of the previous generation that won the World Championship in 2014 and they will at least insist on the 5th position. If we look at their intensity and their results at this championship, what we can see is that they were never under 15 goals in the first 30 minutes in the seven games they played in Moscow (15, 21, 15, 15, 17, 16, and in the quarter-final against Germany 16). They insist on fast transition and their efficiency is high as long as they have the strength, and their opponents, Norway, also prefer a similar playing style. These two teams played a head-to-head game ahead of the World Championship, at a tournament in Denmark, and Korea won 34-31, with 16-16 at halftime. To sum up, offered individual margin on Korea has some value, a little bigger over at the end of the first half. Details

Romania's only serious test here were Germany in the group stage (29-29). Romania were in the lead 18-13 at halftime, but they were limited to only 11 goals in the second half. Laslo is their best scorer and has made half of all of their assists. When she stops, they cannot put anything together. Her role at the WC in Moscow became even more important with the absence of Bazalia, their best shooter. They have no replacement for her, Olocoser is playing at her position, but she was mostly focused on defense before. On the other side we have Croatia who achieved this success and qualified here mostly thanks to their great defense (France 22-17, Austria 24-23, Brazil 26-25, and the defeat against Korea, their limit was under 50 goals 23-26, and yesterday's great win over Hungary 26-25). They did not concede over 26 goals in any game. They announced they will go hard from the start, which means they will focus defense on Laslo. If they manage to stop her, it's unlikely Romania will score over 25 goals. I am also taking into account fatigue and a lot of games that the both teams played in a short period, and the fact that Romania rely on 9-10 players in rotation. Details

Norway have the momentum, wide roster and rhythm that brings them results. The Scandinavians are especially active in the first half. For example, here in Russia, they scored 15 against the powerful Danish defense, 16 against Angola, 20 against Hungary, 19 against Montenegro, the 28 against Uzbekistan can't be taken seriously because they're not that great of a team. On the other hand, Brazil showed more quality in their offensive than their defensive. They average at 14.5 goals allowed in the first half, and all of their opponents were offensively weaker than Norway, except Korea. Let's also add that the Norwegian goals include getting placed to the top four teams of the WC, they're extra motivated because Brazil defeated them in the WC U18 round of 16 two years ago, and they could play the quarterfinal tomorrow, so they might slow things down by the end of the match today if they decide the winner early on, which is a real possibility. For those reasons, the final pick is the Norwegian over individually in the first half. Details

In regular circumstances, this match result would matter and when we know the Spaniards are better defensively than offensively, this margin makes sense. This match result bears no influence whatsoever re garding their final placement in the group. Spain will be the third, Kazakhstan definitely the last. In that context, we can expect the Spanish to rotate a lot, being careful not to get injured and playing the defense loosely. The Kazakhs will play as they did so far, short offenses with lots of technical mistakes, almost no serious game in the defense. They allowed 155 goals, all four of their games ended over 55 goals, against Argentina who are similar to Spain, it was over 55, and this match definitely has even better conditions for it all. Let's also add that Kazakhstan never stayed under 57 goals in the five matches of the Asian qualifiers. Details

Besides the great importance of this game for both teams, the offered margin on the overall number of goals doesn't seem good player-wise, nor stats-wise. Both teams played the previous three games at this tournament at a high intensity, with a lot of shots and overall efficiency at 60% (Hungary 59.5, Norway 56.4, but Norway played one of those three games against Denmark who have excellent defense). They have almost identical percentages of scoring from all positions, most of their back players are great one-on-one. At this margin, Norway have six overs in six games at this tournament and in preparation for it, Hungary have five out of six, they only did not go over in the last game, against Montenegro, after 28 goals at halftime. A year ago, at the U-19 European Championship in Spain, in a very important game these two teams played, that decided who goes into the semi-final, they scored 50 goals (25-25) even though the intensity was for over 55 goals, which can be seen from the result at the halftime (13-18). Important aspects of that game are that Hungary were without the 'brain' of their team, G. Toth, who takes the most shots at this tournament, and who is one of their most efficient players with 12 goals. Also, there were 7 missed seven meter throws at that game in Spain. A proper margin should be higher than the offered one by at least 2 goals. Details

The Kazakhs mostly have younger players on their roster but that those players have more experience than the Egyptians (one half of the roster played the U18 WC two years ago and a few of them at juniors' WC in Croatia in 2014. Right back Abilda and pivot Abdikhamit were a part of the senior team at WC in Denmark. They have much better technical skills and move better, as the intensity of their attacking. In the previous three games at this WC they hit 150 shots, scored 59 goals, while Egypt had 105 shots and scored 51 goal. The number of errors is almost identical on both sides (Kazakhstan have 72, Egypt just two less. That means there is a good chance for a number of easy fastbreak goals for Kazakhstan. Preparing for Kazakhstan tactically is difficult since a few players change positions. They scored 26 goals to Japan, 28 against Korea, 28 against China, 30 against Uzbekistan in Asian qualifiers. Egypt, on the other hand, conceded more than 25 goals in 4 out of their five games - Angola 27, Tunisia 34, Kenya 32 and Algeria. Predicting the outcome of the game might not be easy but based on what we saw at this WC and the player potential they posses, the individual over at Kazakhstan deserves a margin at 27-28 goals. The fact is that on the one hand we have Hungary, the Top Four European junior team, and on the other hand we have Montenegro who, except for the four players, are almost with the identical cadet selection who didn't play at the EC U-17 last year, and they won't play at the WC U-18 this summer in Slovakia. There are a couple of options available for Hungary, when it comes to picks for this duel. The best one, next to the offered handicap, is the margin for the individual over on Hungary's juniors. In the last two rounds at this World Championship Hungary recorded 41 goals against Uzbekistan and 33 against Angola. They had a total of 118 shots in these two matches, they're a team who like fast transition and who score from all the positions. Their results from the preparation period also speak in favor of their offensive game: against Romania U20 they recorded 30 goals, against Austria's juniors it was 33, Romania's university team (in which there were a couple of seniors) they recorded 29 goals. In the WC qualifications they pulverized Iceland (39-21), then Belarus (37-23) and again Austria (36-29). Not once they were under 29 goals this year. With these results and the numbers they have at this WC in Russia, Hungary's individual over is a must. Details

This meeting with Kazakhstan is one of two most important ones at this World Championship. A win would see them open the door towards Round of 16 which was their initial goal for this WC. They have a generation that got close to European teams. The games with Spain and Romania (second half) proved that. They were close to Spain for 40 minutes and managed to close the gap against Romania in the second half to lose by 6 goals (17-23). Let's just say that that Romania beat Kazakhstan by 22 goals in the first round (43-21) and that the Kazakhs went on to lose by double digits to Germany (17-43, 7-26 in the first half). That same Romania trashed Kazakhstan by 22 goals (43-219 and the Kazakhs had 10 young players on their roster, they made 54 errors in just two games and their power and quality will just get more questionable as the tournament advances. In any case, this margin is too low at Argentine's handicap by at least 2-3 goals. The total handicap has the same value. Details

After the warm up in the games against Kazakhstan and Egypt, this is the 'real' opening of the World Championship for Germany and the announcements are that we will see their real and best performance today, even though there was no lack of focus and intensity in the first two games, there was only lack of motivation. Spain are their 'regular customers'. In the previous three years, they played three games, two friendlies and one official at the U-19 European Championship, and the Germans were convincing in all three games. On March 30th 2015, Germany won 23-21 (16-10 at halftime) in Portugal, then in the game for the 5th to 8th position in Malaga (July 31st) Germany were better by 2 goals, 26-24, after 14-9 in the first half. And finally, four months ago, during the preparations for the World Championship Qualifications, at a tournament in Spain, Germany won 26-15 (9-7 in the first half). What we can point out is that the Germans were great defensively, they dictated the pace and two German players were dominant in all three games, pivot Ingenpass and middle-back Grijseels, both playing for Dortmund. Germany's results were always at least a level better than those of this Spain's generation, who did not qualify for the U-18 World Championship two years ago, and the Germans were runners-up there. I expect that they will finish most of the job in the first half, so the offered handicap on the Germans definitely deserves attention. Details

There are more things that suggest the Argentine offense will be limited against the favorites from Romania today. Argentina are a team which play long and patient attack, with more than 40 shots on goal on average. They had 41 shots on target yesterday and score 21. Today, they will be faced with defending champions from younger teams which is very serious. Their goal keeper was the top option for Baia Mare, who won the runner-up spot in the Romanian championship. They also have two defense specialists, Vasili and Polocose, who play only defense. This Romanian team wants to get far at this WC. They had a warm-up against Kazakhstan and used all 16 players. Unlike them, Argetina had a more demanding game against Spain late last night and 4 players spent over 50 minutes on the floor. According to the latest info we have, starting left back Pippo won't be there with an injury. Let's just say that these two teams met two years ago at U-18 WC and Romania won 34-20. It was 16-9 after the first 30 minutes. To sum up, the individual under at Argentina seems like the best choice but because of the fear that the game will fall apart in the second half the final choice is under at half time. Details

On one side we have Montenegro who have only five real juniors from this generation in their roster (Nenezic, Pavicevic, Agovic, Cavlovic and Malovic; the last one was only present in the last 10 days of preparations), and the rest are cadets who this year won't be playing in the World Championship for cadets, and they didn't manage to get into the European Championship for cadets last year. They have a couple of talented girls, like left back Jovicevic, right back Bosnjak and middle back Brnovic, but first and foremost, they're two years younger and they're missing good games during the season, and that's what Norway have. On the other side, Norway have been playing for four years with almost identical players, they have great width, all of the girls were playmakers or starters in their senior teams, they're in Norway's best league. Last year at EC U-19 they missed the semi-finals by only one goal and ended up sixth. They beat Montenegro at that EC with 29-27; 23 out of the 27 Montenegrian goals were scored by players who won't be playing today, Jankovic alone recorded 15. Norway are in great shape according to the preparation tournament from Denmark where they beat the home team 28-27, as well as Sweden (32-20). Details

This game for 5th spot is at the same time the 5th game in 6 days. The target here is the u/o margin which has been highly affected by these teams results in group stage and isn't the real reflection of their potential or player quality. The Japanese won both group stage game narrowly ( to Spain 26-27 and 22-23 to Romania). Those two teams will play the final today. On the other hand, we have the Czechs who are in a very similar situation. They lost to Russia convincingly 25-34 and then 18-28 to Poland. Both of those teams were physically more powerful and had some players who already played for the A team. Both Japan and the Czech Republic mostly have players born in 1994, who played the World Championship in Croatia two years ago. The almost exactly same team played the Universiade in Korea last year. Japan finished all of their games there over this margin (Montenegro 27-28, Ukraine 23-31, Romania 32-32, Serbia 26-29). The Czechs played just one game against an Asian team and finished at 55 goals (32-23). The only thing in favor of an over is the fact both teams have wings as their most efficient players. Details

Second day of the Universiade in handball which is played in Malaga until Sunday, brings us a derby between Spain and Romania. At yesterday's opening of the tournament, Romania defeated underdogs of the group, India 43-11, while Spain won ten seconds before the end of the game against Japan (27-26). The odds before the game are favoring Spain, mostly because of the home field advantage, but looking at the players, Romania deserve at least a similar position. Both teams are playing here with a sort of B teams, but Romania appear much more serious. Costica Buceschi is leading Romania, she is the assistant coach of their A team, and there are two players in the roster who played at the World Championship in Denmark at the end of last year (left back and one of the best defenders, Perianu, and right back Vizitiu), and there are two other players who played the qualifications for the European CHampionship (Dedu and Zamfirescu). Six players played at the last year's Universiade in Korean Gwagn, most of them are former junior players from generation 92 and 94 who were in Top 6 European teams at almost every final tournament. Spanish roster has some players who are not on the list of the Top 20 that are preparing for the Olympic games. Most of their players come from clubs Bera Bera and Mecalia Guardes, the best known players are right back Manaut and pivot Sempera, they have put together a team from generations '90, '92 and '94, who regularly lost to their Romanian peers in the past. They were down almost entire game against Japan yesterday, down by 2 two minutes before the ned. Unlike them, Romanians had a 'warm up' against India and Bucesci gave all his players a chance. Romania have a better team here, they are going into this game rested and they deserve to be the favorites to win. Details

In the next three days, Luxembourg will host the qualifying tournament for the European Championship for small countries. The best two teams will get a spot at the final tournament while the best team here gets a visa for the second qualifying round for 2017 World Championship. Iceland and Scotland are to open this tournament. Scotland are the favorites on paper because of their better reputation and better results from previous years. Scotland are here without their top player and team captain Beattie, who is a receiver. They will also be without one other receiver Couts and two opposites. An Italian expert Capriotti has been in charge at Iceland for 2 years now. There is a big improvement regarding their game and results since he took over. Last year at European Championship for small countries (which Scotland didn't play) they won spot 3 with 2 wins and 2 defeats. They beat Lichtenstein 3-0, San Marino 3-1 and lost to Luxembourg 1-3 and Montenegro 0-3. Iceland have been preparing for this for two months. They are complete and have played test games against Denmark some ten days ago. Denmark won both 3-1. Denmark are at least one level higher than Scotland in quality and even a set for Iceland here has value. Iceland are very ambitious and want to finish in one of the top two spots. They have a big chance not to win just one set, but for much more. Set at Iceland should not be paid with more than 1,75-1,80. Details

After yesterday's triumph against the hosts of the second tournament in Group A, Albania (3-1), Slovakia definitely became the winners of this group and secured the Europa League semi-finals. In it, Slovakia will meet up with the winners of Group C, Slovenia. The first semi-finals match is in three days in Ljubljana, while the second leg will be played next weekend in Slovakia. And that's where I see two main reasons for today's pick for Poland. Slovakia accomplished their goal, they have no result motivation today. On the other hand, they're up for two important duels against Slovenia, and there's a big chance that the main players will be spared today because of that. Poland is playing in this Europa League with their B team, a mix of talented girls who were Europe's gold cadets in 2013, and a couple of experienced players who are on the senior list. They don't stand a chance to get into Europa League semi-finals, and in the last five matches in this group Poland won twice and lost thrice. Three of the matches were played in five sets, and every time they won at least a set, and they were never in a -10 or more minus. Two weeks ago, in the first tournament, they lost to Slovakia after five sets and with -9 point difference. Today we have better preconditions because of which the offered margins on the handicap points for Poland have value. Details

Slovakia did what they had to in these two friendlies against favored Brazil. Their goal was to be equal in the field in at least one game, they won yesterday and their job is done. It's Brazil's turn today, who are at least in the Top 10 of the world teams, and they have big ambitions for the Olympic Games. They have the best possible roster here, from goalkeeper Pessoa and Ana Rodrigues, CSM Bucurestia's player, new European Club champions, to Amorim, Nascimento, Piedade, Diniz... not to mention all of their biggest starts. This is their last game at this European tour in which they defeated Denmark 23-17 and Argentina 27-15. I expect them to react well in both directions against Slovakia, who have a much younger team, and are missing 4-5 most experienced players, like Jakubisova, Gubikova, Szucsova, Trehubova and Szarkova and who will be playing their fourth game in seven days. Yesterday the first margin we had offered was -6.5, today's is lower by 2 goals, and the conditions for playing are much better. Details

The Dutch and the South Africans are playing their second friendly match in Waalwijk today. The Dutch won three days ago, 1-0, but unlike that game where there were no viewers, this one's got a more official character and will be played in front of an audience. That means the home team will be a lot more motivated. The Dutch had a combined lineup in the first duel, without the seven starters who played the Olympic qualifiers three months ago, when Netherlands got the second place with four points, and didn't manage to get placed to Rio (Sweden 1-1, Norway 1-4, Switzerland 4-3). Three days ago, Miedema from Bayern and the second scorer of the Bundesliga, Van der Berg (Liverpool), van Veendaal and van de Donk (Arsenal) didn't play. The best Dutch lineup was announced today, so they'll be a lot more convincing today than in the first match when they scored a goal in the third minute and stopped. They'll have a lot of good players today, and will show quality compared to the South Africans who are a lower level of women's football, two levels below the best African teams like Nigeria and Cameroon. The offered handicap and the team over sound like good picks, and the latter one seems better of the two. Details
