    Club Italia played nine championship rounds, and the bookmakers still don't trust them. The odds offered today clearly show it. As if these weren't teams next to each other on the league table, and who aren't only one point away from each other. Both teams beat Bolzano, Bergamo and Bisonte in the last month. Club Italia beat both Bisonte and Bolzano convincingly, not the case with Vicenza. This should be an evened out game, and interesting to watch. Vicenza only beat Montichiari with this handicap this season so far, and Club Italia lost their last away game to Conegliano in straight sets, but they were good in all three. Conegliano had 11 points more in the end, so they didn't cover this handicap either. Vicenza can't be compared to Conegliano, they lost to Conegliano in straight sets by 9 points. Club Italia are under less pressure coming to this match, and Vicenza simply have to win. They didn't play for 10 days, which isn't working in their favor. Their arena isn't that hot, about 1.25 that can be found for Vicenza is completely unrealistic. Club Italia aren't bad at all, they're in a great form, and this handicap is at least three points too high. Details

    Kangasala knocked out Paris in the first round and Paris were better than Nantes this season, who lost to Khimik. The Ukrainian champions are not as good as last season and it precisely the last season why they are such a heavy favorite here. I don't think Khimki would beat Paris away, which the team from Finland managed to do. They have three good Americans on the team. The coach at the Ukrainian team says that Kangasala are better than LP Salo, the team they met three seasons ago in Challenge Cup and got knocked out. Khimki are, I'd say, just as good as back then when they lost to the Finish team. I think the odds are all wrong here. I would set the odds at Kangaslae winning slightly higher than what we have for their two sets. I expect a close game an two sets for the Finish team home seem like a great choice. Kangsala won two sets against Paris in both games and Khimki are not better than team from Paris. Details

    Aachen are overrated here, and quite a lot, in my opinion. I doubt if they will win this game at all. 17 days ago, in the same arena they're playing in today, Aachen defeated Hamburg 15-13 in the fifth set. It was the Cup quarter-final in which Hamburg won 2 points more. Nothing has significantly changed since then to turn things in Aachen's favor. I expect an even game. Aachen will go into it fatigued, they played the Cup semi-final on Wednesday. Their form is dropping in comparison to the start of the season. It is being felt more and more that Crkon is not the opposite, they are more vulnerable at reception. The opponents figured out their tactics, too much depends on Weihenmeier, who is quite spent already. Hamburg were focused on this game for about a week. They won't lack motivation, they will want revenge for the Cup loss. Their form actually improved since they last faced Aachen. They defeated Potsdam, showed character in that game, they don't surrender even when it seems it is all done. They game Vilsbiburg a hard time in the last round. This season they lost in this handicap only against Dresded, Schwerin and Stuttgart, and those are the best teams in the league. This can be played at -10,5 as well, but in case of limited availability, good choice is also Hamburg winning a set, which is paid a little less. Details

    I think the margin here is 3-4 points too low and I have to go with it. Dynamo Moscow have a great team but not as good a coach. Pancenko understands men's volleyball better than women's. He didn't do well while in charge at Fakel (women's club) and I think he's not going to be doing well with Dynamo. Alba's coach Zakoc will prepare this game better, his team is in fine form and are 7-0 in the domestic championship. This is a game in which they'll try to put up a good fight and force the opponents to fight hard, just like the Piacenza match the last round when they lost in straight sets but got really, really close in two of them. The team from Moscow beat Le Cannet in straight sets in a match that finished at 125 points. Had the French not made some inexplicable mistakes, the match would have finished with some 5 points more. Alba beat Le Cannet away, which means Dinamo are in for a tougher task today then in their last European match. Also, the Romanian side had more time to prepare for it. Dynamo played two cup matches last week to barely manage to get into FF. They beat proton in the 5th set, Voronez 3-0. That latter match finished with 136 points in total. Voronez are not as good as Alba. The Romanian champions have a lot of well-experienced players and I think we need to take advantage of this low margin. Details

    In my estimation, Piacenza are a team that belongs in the Top 3 of the league, Modena will fight for the placement between 5th and 8th position. Home court definitely gives Piacenza an advantage here, the away team are looking weaker than them at the start of the season, and in their two away games so far, they won only one set. They lost at Novara by 16 points, same at Montichiario. Modena are still searching their form, they lack games, and the form is also on home team's side. Both teams made a lot of changes since last year, and in my opinion, Modena still overestimate themselves on account of last season. They are weaker than they were last year, Piacenza are stronger, they acquired respectable players. Modena are more vulnerable at reception, their setter is weaker, and quality and experience are on Piacenza's side. Piacenza have more offensive options, while more or less everything at Modena comes down to Diouf. Piacenza still haven't faced top teams, but I believe in their strength. They presented it in the Champions League when they won at home by 16 against Dinamo Moscow. Modena are not better than the Russians. Piacenza also covered this handicap at home against Montichiario and Savino. Modena haven't convinced me at the start of the season that they can be as good as they were last year, Piacenza owe them a lot since than I think they will pay part of the debt today. Handicap of points is a better choice than sets, because it can pass even if the match is decided in the fifth set. Details

    At the opening of the Azerbaijani championship, we have a match between Lokomotiv and Telecom, who are former Rabita, a team that dominated Azerbaijan over the last years. The balance of powers has shifted this season, Telecom cut their budget five fold. Their players are young, inexperienced and not too good. That was confirmed at the start of the Champions League when they lost at home against Wroclaw in straight sets by 23 points. In my quality scale, Telecom are the fourth team in Azerbaijan, and Lokomotiv are top favorites to win the title. Lokomotiv are not weaker than Wroclaw. But hardly and any Telecom player could be in Lokomotiv's starting lineup. They also started Champions League with a defeat, but against Dinamo at Kazan. They won a set, and the three they lost were tight. Lokomotiv are better in all positions, and that especially refers to the opposite and libero. They have Castillo and Havlickova there, players that create difference against teams stronger than Telecom.
    Motivation is not under question, Lokomotiv need a win ahead of the Champions League derby against Azerrail on Wednesday. This game should serve them as a means to gain more confidence, lit atmosphere, and they have no reason to save themselves in it. A few days ago, Telecom's president went to jail. Probably for embezzlement. That is why Telecom don't have much of an atmosphere, and there are talks again about ending the club. Lokomotiv are much stronger and it would be a big surprise if they wouldn't win all three points today, personally I wouldn't put more than 1,10 on their win. Details

    There isn't much to talk about here, last season both of their head-to-head matches were resolved in the fifth set. Cannes have almost completely changed their team this season, and I am not surprised with their oscillations at the start of the season. The odds on their win could be called a fraud. Last year they were perhaps twice stronger than now, and they struggled against Vizura, this season Vizura are not twice weaker than they were last year. Besides, they kept Cannes in check at the Cote d'Azur without Savic and Boskovic who are no longer here. Vignjevic should be a decent replacement for Mirkovic, who didn't want to move to their today's opponent, so she is Belgrade training with Vizura's second team. We could say that Vizura will only be weakened by Busa's absence, in comparison to last season's match where they were close to defeating Cannes. It would be no surprise if they win today. Weak Istres have taken a set from the French champions and played a match at 179 points. Beziers took them into the fifth set. It would be no surprise if the same happened today, the margin on overall points is low, and we should use that. Vizura's president is not talking in vain when he says that he believes in a European win today. Details

    My choice here are Dresden; compared to last season they changed far less and even then they were better than Schwerin. Honestly, I expected Dresden at 1,60-1,65 today. It's offered at a lot higher rate, and the reason for that is Schwerin's home court, but also their three wins so far. The ones against VCO Berlin and Hamburg were expected, and the referees helped them a bit against Stuttgart. That match could have gone differently, Stuttgart are not at even 70% of what they were last season, so I wouldn't take that win as a serious one. Schwerin are good for now, but my impression is that they're weaker than they were last year, and they didn't have an opponent as serious as Dresden who they're hosting today.
    Dresden don't seem to be any weaker than last year when they won in this away match against the better Schwerin in three sets. They lost after that at home in the fifth set, but for them it was a result-wise completely unimportant match in which they went in, spent from the European matches and traveling. Today they're rested, ready and willing to win. Two matches so far ae on their side, and they need a new one for the start of the Champions League. Unlike last season, they changed a lot less than their opponents. The most of the main players stayed, and that's not the case with Schwerin. For those gone they brought worthy substitutes, they have a longer bench than Schwerin. The players can make a turnover even if things don't go well. Schwerin are a bit overestimated based on their past and this is in no way an equal match. Dresden are the favorites for me, and they will justify that role. Details

    I think this is a 50-50 match. Schwerin are overrated based on their last seasons, Stuttgart made less changes and I agree with their coach, they're stronger than they were last year. Their bench is a bit long, the starting lineup is just as good. Miyashiro is out today, but her substitute, Robinson, is a good libero. To sum up, Stuttgart have the same quality as last year, when they beat Schwerin in four of five matches. Their only defeat was in the fifth set, and if that happens today, this will be a winning bet.
    Schwerin lost Sloetjes who lead Netherlands to the silver medal at the recent European Championship. They lost Belien in the block, Weihenmaier at the reception, the setter Nenova was replaced by Hanke. They might be stronger there, evened out at the reception, but block and the opposite will be weaker than last year. The Canadian Love, their opposite, isn't as good as Sloetjes. She was substituting Brakočević in Azeryol last season, and didn't play that much. The German Völker plays the libero, and Schwerin will be weaker in that segment than Stuttgart today.
    To sum it up, Stuttgart are just as good as they were last season, and Schwerin are at least 20% weaker. Stuttgart won two sets in all five matches last season, and things are even better for them today. As I said at the beginning, this is an even match, and the odds are that Stuttgart will win two sets. So, there's definitely value in this bet. Details

    The Poland-Slovenia game didn't go well for me but I still trust the Poles. They are to play Belarus today, an opponent the left a good impression in group stage games. I don't think this will finish in straight sets. Belarus are the most pleasant surprise of this EC. They beat Croatia, and Bulgaria and it's questionable whether Poland would have beat any of those teams. Poland lost to Croatia just before the championship. Many coaches here praise Belarus and I think that the over seems like the best choice here. Poland are being overrated and even if they win, it won't be easy. Belarus should be able to get a set, which is available at 1.35. There are no secrets between these teams, they played three close matches in August in early stages of prepartion period. Starting lineups mostly played two sets in those games and things were very close, with Belraus maybe being sligtly better. The margin is pretty low and this will work with 45 points per set. Details

    A battle for the top spot in Group A, for the direct qualification in QF, for an extra day off and most importantly, for avoiding Russia in quarterfinals. I'm sure we'll see the winner of this game in the semis on Saturday so this is basically the QFs before the QFs. The possible opponents in QFs are Bulgaria, Belarus and Croatia but it doesn't really matter since none of those team will have a nice against the top team in this group, at least judging by what we saw so far. I'm saying all this to emphasize how important this match is. Two Italian coaches will try to outsmart one another. The Dutch will have the fans on their side, which suggests a close game. I don't think this will end in straight sets. It can do both ways, Italy are more experienced and reception will be crucial. If the Dutch do well in that segment, they will be able to take advantage of their power and strength. if not, Italy will be much closer to winning. I will not try and guess the winner but I will go with the over. The margin is not too high and my assumption is simple - this will not finish in three sets. One set should be extended and the other three with results of about 25-19, which is realistic and therefore a good choice. Details

    This is honestly the game I've been waiting for since the start of the championship. I expected the odds at Slovenia to be lower but I'm not complaining. Poland are being overrate based on their results from the past. They have not been one of top European teams for a long time. They constantly go with younger players and then call the more experienced ones back but to no avail. The Polish form has not improved, on the contrary. They lost the important Zaroslinksa and that is very much noticeable. They had to change tactics and lost both games in the Netherlands. Poland are under enormous pressure now as a defeat today would see them crash out. If they win, I don't think it will be a straight sets win. They are prone to mistakes, the last consistency and I don't think they can play the entire game at a high level. Slovenia reached their goal by qualifying for the EC but of course, they will try and surprise their opponents today. Good news is, Slovenia are under no pressure. They don't have any big stars and play for each other. They also never give up - won a set yesterday against Italy when everything was already lost. Poland are no Italy. Poland were not able to get a good analyses of the Slovenian team because the opponents don't have famous players and it's difficult to know what to expect. Poland have not done brilliantly in test games, having lost to Belarus and twice to Azerbaijan, whom Slovenia beat twice in test games. Slovenia's form improved as the preparation period advanced and is still improving. Poland are not top team while Slovenia aren't as bad as it is being suggested. The odds were similar to Slovenia winning a set against the Dutch and we saw how much better the Dutch are compared to Poland yesterday. Details

    I think Azerbaijan will not do well at this championship. The main competition of the season were European Games for them. Turkey stopped them there in five sets even though they could have finished it all in 4 sets. Azerbaijan were in a state of trance at EG, lead by support of an arena packed with fans. Rahimova was in brilliant shape but is not even close to that now. Azerbaijan lost to Croatia and Italy easily in the final part of preparation in straight sets. Slovenia beat them 3-1 in the dress rehearsal. Azerbaijan have nothing to surprise Turkey with. Turkey are better at every position except for Rahimova's, which may also be questionable today. Teams always try hard at the start and I expect Turkey to handle this in straight sets They played well in the test games and came here fully prepared. Details

    I don't want to miss these great odd on Serbia winning the gold. Many reasons, the most important one being the recently finished World Cup where Serbia played great. They only lost to China, in a match where the opponents were already on their knees. The Serbians didn't know how to hit the final blow, and then they relaxed, and beat Japan, USA, Russia, and got placed to the Olympics as the first European team. Beating Russia, who are the first favorite according to the bookmakers, is another reason for this bet. Serbia feel no pressure after getting to the Olympics, unlike the Russians who will try to get there through the qualifications in January. That means the Serbians' mental state is much better than the Russian. I have info that the Serbian coach Terzić let his players rest after the success in Japan, and they're coming to Netherlands fresh, but also greatly motivated to get the title again, the one they won four years ago. Compared to the last two years, Serbia are better with the young Bošković as the opposite, the block is better with Stevanović and Rašić. The Setter Ognjenović is playing like she did in her best days again, and Mihajlović grew to be one of the world's best receivers/hitters. Ščerban is questionable for Russia, and that's all I'd say about the Russians.
    Compared to the competition, Serbia's way to the semifinal is open. Germany, their main opponent from the group, can't harm them, and even if they can, Serbia will have their chance again because the most serious opponent from the rival group are Turkey. Serbia would definitely be a favorite against them. Belgium owes them from two years ago, they're not complete and I don't see them as a team who can stop Serbia right now. Who else besides Russia on their way to the gold? Probably Netherlands as the host, and Italy. But all things put on paper, Serbia will have advantage in those matches. In eyes of many a volleyball expert, Serbia are the first favorite before the beginning of the championship. I'd agree, so everything from 3 and above are the odds making this bet worthwhile. Details

    Porec and Buzet meet in the local derby match of the Croatian province of Istria. Porec are a favorite to some extent in this match but this will not be an easy game for them. They played two EHF meetings against Maccabi Rison from Israel and managed to get through by two goals. However, the games were exhausting and Porec and not in an ideal fitness ahead of this game. The players are hit by minor injuries, the important players Huljina, Thoss and Kobeti didn't practice yesterday. They will play today but won't be doing their best for sure. Mataija is out as well and many think he's the key player at Porec. He organizes their game, which is the segment that will not be as good today. Their opponents Buzet changes a lot over the summer but what we an expect today is a great deal of fierceness on both sides. Buze's top player Galijot said:

    We will not give up. Porec are the favorites we know that, but we'll do our best to get the two points. Congrats to Porec for the EHF Cup win but we'll do what ever it takes to win today.

    Buzet almost always do well home. They lost to Porec away last season 26-20, meaning they want to get back at them. Porec's coach prefers to have a good defense first. His former team Karlovac averaged 49 goals per game last season. Porec will try and win the opening match through defense, especially while Mataija is still out. The first game against Maccabi finished at 38 goals, the other one in which they fought for the next round at 50.

    Porec will be pretty tired today so I don't expect a fast pace. Buzet will try and win through defense. They averaged 50 goals per game last season. Their first choice middle back Lusic is out and with all the changes, Buzet need more time to get everything working. Motivation is high since these teams are rivals and this is a local derby match. Defenses should dominate this game and it should not go over 50 goals. Details

    Hungary knew how to handle Israel even when Artmenko and Velikiy were on the team. There is no reason for Israel not to be defeated today. Hungary played their best Europa League game last Sunday and if they manage to do like that again, the Israelis won't stand a chance. Hungary are a much better team individually. Horvath has played at top European teams, Liliom has a good international carrier as well while Sandor had a good season at German runner-up Stuttgart. Israel lack stability, they struggled against Georgia away and they're at least 20% weaker away. There are no secrets between these two teams and tradition is on Hungary's side. They beat Israel even incomplete, but look better than ever now. They have continuity, the form is getting better ahead of EC and they are home.     Both Serbia and China are hoping to secure a spot in the Olympics at this World Cup. Both teams are very good - China proved it at Grand Prix, Serbia not so much because they didn't play with the best lineup all the time. In the end, they tanked the so that they wouldn't have to play the final. The reason for it was their wish to get here in an ideal shape, which means Serbia will be better here than in any other game this year. China also sacrificed the Grand Prix for this. They lost team captain Hui Ruoqi, which is a problem but not for this bet. Without her, this will definitely be a closer game.

    I don't think Serbia are without a chance here but the points over seems like a very good choice. The first think I always check are head-to-head games but since these two teams didn't play head-to-head this season. However, the previous matches suggest that this one should be an over. Last year in Grand Prix, the match was settled in the fifth set. Two years ago, they played two matches, one of which was settled in five sets, the other one in four, with a total of 180 points. I expected the margin to be around that number today. Even that I would gladly take. China will be without their captain today compared to those matches from two ears ago, which is why I think Serbia stand an even better chance.     This is a rerun of the U23 final two years ago. I think that the Dominican Republic are vastly underestimated. They came to Turkey with a pretty strong lineup, with three players who play the senior national team. That team will be playing the World Cup in a few days, but it doesn't matter if they join them, because they'll be here today. First, Brayelin Martinez who plays an important role in the A team, and then Isabel Peni who played the WC last year, and Jineiry Martinez. They've got five players who played this championship final two years ago. China won in three sets, not as convincing as the result might make it seem, but China will only have one player from that final today. Of course, China do have a wide basis, and are a favorite in this duel, but not like this. They didn't bring their best players here because some of them also joined the senior team for the World Cup. The biggest handicap is Lu Yanhan's absence, she lead this team to the title at the Asian championship in May. Without her, the Chinese are weak, the last two days showed it. They beat Japan and Thailand in Turkey, but not convincingly. They lost a set in each match, struggled a lot, and were winning those sets in final moments. They showed character, but also vulnerability. Japan only lost by 12 points, Thailand by 10. China used their height superiority in both those matches. Today, they'll face a different kind of opponent, and their height won't give them an advantage, so I don't expect them to dominate the block. I think the Dominicans will have the advantage there, and they'll be really motivated. I said, five players from their current lineup played the final two years ago, and this is their chance to get even. Whoever wins this will go to the semifinal, because the two best teams of the group end up there. The Dominican Republic showed more than Japan and Thailand who gave a hard time to China. I think they're better and more experienced than those two Asian teams, so we can expect them to stand up to China even better. They can cover this handicap, which is worth more than betting on them winning a set. With all that, the Dominicans are better rested, too, they spent less time on court so far, and had more time to get ready for this match.
