City's defense weakened, Hull promosing a heroic battle

City reclaimed the top spot in Premier League and will now look to qualify for League Cup semifinals. The second-tier Hull are very good this and won't just give up on this game

Following the return into the top Premier League table on Saturday, City are now looking to advance into League Cup semifinals against the second-tier Hull, the team that is currently sitting in spot 4 in the table. Manager Pellegrini is in serious problems again since a number of his players is not fit to play today, but the offensive midfielder Silva might start this game after being out for almost two months. 

- I might make some changes but not too many, especially not in defense where I have the least choice - Pellegrini said. He is without team captain Kompany, Mangala and Zabaleta (defenders), top goal keeper Hart and midfielder Nasri. 

- It's easier for clubs who were knocked out of League Cup and European competitions to play in Premier League. But that doesn't change anything in our wish to keep on participating in this competition. We want to beat Hull and make it into semifinals - Pellegrini said. He will almost definitely rest some of City's midfielders and forwards. 

Hull were relegated from Premier League at the end of last season but they are very determined to get back in it the very same year. That is why they kept a lot of players on the team and are so far recording good results in the Championship. However, the battle for the top two spots that mean automatic promotion will be fierce and tough.

Hull eliminated two Premier League teams from League Cup this season - Swansea (1-0) and Leicester (on penalties). They are under no pressure today and hope that the home team might not go full throttle today.

- We lost only three out of the last 22 games. We managed to stay undefeated at Etihad in Premier League last season. One can say that we are confident and that we aren't giving up the idea of advancing through - Hull's manager Bruce said. He will send the best he has to face City but he cannot count on defender Dawson, who is out with an injury.

- Great clubs as a rule use League Cup to see how good their young players are, but things are different in QFs, especially because City know that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all out and that they can easily win the trophy. But, we'll try and cause them as much trouble as possible - Steve Bruce said. Hull won only one out of the last 9 games, while they don't have a win in Manchester since 1930. The fact they've been here only 9 times since may be comforting but they lost 6 out of those 9 visits.
