The group part is done and Hungary are now for the first time meeting with playing. That's their minus. The Italian plus is their last match. Prior to the World Championship Italy beat Hungary as an away team

After three easy practices, and it's hard to call them that, world champions Hungary are going in for the real deal. They're off to defend the title. The path is long and hard, but that was the case two years ago, and they made it to the end. The last round against Argentina served them to achieve the biggest victory on world championships. They ended with 17 goals of advantage, one more than the previous recorders (20-4 against Egypt and 21-5 against New Zealand).

Unlike the quarter-finalists who had a three days' break, Hungarians had a week to rest considering their opponents in the group. Through Saturday and Sunday they played warm-up matches against Croatia and Greece, just to sense their lost senses before the quarter-finals.

- We still didn't get to feel the strength of the World Championship. Now the real deal is on and I hope we will be ready for the quarter-finals - announced Hungarian's selector Tibor Benedek.

Benedek's players don't have other options because defeat would mean getting out of the run for the medal, and the medal is the only diagnosis for Hungarian water polo. Hungarians have, in a way, been challenged before the quarter-finals because the Italians sought the easy way to the medal over their game.

- We don't have problems with that. The Italians picked us and that's that - said Benedek about the unexpected Italian defeat by the USA.

That defeat was fast forgotten in the Italian headquarters. Canada didn't create big problems for Italy, and the good indicator of that are the two conceded goals. The last one Italians conceded in the 21st minute, but at the same time we have to point out that there were certain offense problems. No matter how good Canadian defense is, the three goals in more than two and a half quarters is too modest for the Italian offense.

- No match is easy. We didn't have it easy against Russia or Greece. We are a young team; seven players are for the first time on a World Championship. There were too many emotions at the start of the tournament. The players need to play stronger matches - said Italy's selector Alessandro Campagna and graded his team so far:

- What we did so far was nothing. Hungary are a great team, world champions. We have to prepare ourselves tactically, mentally and we have to win.

Campagna probably started preparing a tactic for the Hungarians earlier, and before the championship he showed that it works. Three weeks ago in Vodafone Cup they took the title from Hungary, in a Hungarian pool (8-6). Campagna will take a lot of things from that match, and mostly center Aicardi who dominated in that match. That means that Hungarian backs Angyal and Gor-Nagy are up for a delicate job, and that means pressure. Hungarians, as an unchanged team from the World Championship in Barcelona, are here, and the Italians are a whole new team, like their selector said.
