Rebounds will decide the opening match of the series

Unicaja finally found a way out of their crisis after five consecutive defeats, and just in the nick of time. They had lots of problems with Laboral this season, they're one of the rare teams who can match them physically

Unicaja finally ended the series of five defeats, which cost them the first and the second place at the league table. They won when they were least expected, the away match against Bilbao, and they did it without their best player, Granger.

- We showed progress in our game in the defeat to Barcelona already, and now we reaped it against Bilbao.  I said already that there's no reason to panic and that the only important thing before the playoff is the form. I believe we left the crisis behind and we're in a much better rhythm now - the coach Plaza concluded.

His team were leading the league table for the most of the season, and showed excellent game, but they had lots of problems against Laboral this season. It's simple. Laboral can match them physically, they keep the rebounds, and that makes Unicaja less dangerous.

- Up until a few rounds ago, it was questionable whether Laboral will even get to the playoff, but then they improved their game. They feel no pressure now, which makes them really dangerous. We know each other really well because we played each other a lot this season, and we know what to build our tactics on - Plaza claims.

In Unicaja case, that means firm defense, bordering on fouls, and forcing the offensive rebounds so to dull Laboral's fastbacks. If they allow themselves to have to run much, then Malaga's players don't have a chance because that's where Laboral are fantastic.

Real and Obradoiro's players saw that in the last week, when Ibon Navarro's team ran them over. When the captain San Emeterio came back, the game came back, as well as the winning atmosphere in the club from Vitoria, so Laboral are completely ready for the playoff.

- This is a new situation and we have to learn how to deal with the pressure of the playoff because we've only got four players with that experience - coach Navarro is aware.

What's really important is that Scotty Hopson found his place in the team lately, and his game will be important today because he can match Unicaja's back three players well as a strong wing player. Those three were the ones who gave Laboral a really hard time when San Emeterio was guarding them. Now, Laboral have many more options and that's important. Coach Navarro praised their opponent before the match:

- They had a bad streak that week, because of the two-week break where they lost the competitive rhythm. But you could see it in the last match against Bilbao, they recovered and showed the game that kept them at the first place of the league table for most of the season.

The tactic is obvious for both sides. Unicaja want to slow things down and push their aggressive game, while the guests want to run as much as they can, which was something Navarro pointed out:

- They might be the most aggressive team in Europe, next to Olympiacos. They're also really aggressive in the offensive rebounds, and we'll have to focus on that, and control the rebounds as a team. That would allow us to run, and that's our strong suit.

Luckily for Navarro, his team are one of the rare teams in Europe who can match Unicaja when it comes to the rebounds. Begić, Iverson, Tillie and Shengelia showed a few times this season that they can keep up with their rebounds. The rebounds would allow Laboral to make fastbacks, and without that, they can't count on winning today:

- We have to run, that's our quality, and we have to use it. For that, of course, we need to control the rebounds and I'm sure that's where this match will be decided.

We should mention that Shengelia and Adams had some injury issues, but they should be ready to play today.
