Only the title would make the Warriors happy

The Pens are a respect-worthy opponent but they eliminating the Warriors, who are after the title, would be no short of a miracle

There is no doubt whatsoever which team was the best one in regular season. Golden State sailed through the season to win staggering 67 out of 82 games to become only the tenth team in League's history to get at least that many wins. It's no surprised no one even remembers the stubborn Jackson who was replaced by the much more relaxed (and more expensive) Steve Kerr, who gave the players much more freedom, especially on the offensive end. 

- Our players did an amazing job. They were great. We should definitely take a moment to celebrate a fantastic season and enjoy what we have accomplished. But we need to get back to working soon. This is when it get much tougher - Kerr said. He won more games than any other rookie coach in NBA history.

The Oakland-based team manage to get into their third consecutive playoff for the first time since mid-70s. Numerous club records were broken this season, including the one in total number of wins. They won 16 games more than last season, which is the biggest progress in NBA history for a team that won at least 50 games the previous season. Besides, the Warriors became only the 8th team that finished regular season with a double-digit point difference (10.1). It is therefore quite clear why the Warriors are regarded as the prime contenders for the title.

- I feel like we can win the title. I feel like we have what it takes. No one will be happy with anything other than trophy. If we do our best, I'm sure we an get through to round two and then it starts again. It's not easy. We need to be at our very best each and every night - Curry said. He's been recording 23.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.7 assists this season, while scoring a total of 286 three-pointers to break his own record. It's therefore not weird he is regarded as one of top candidates for the MVP title.

Two men from the background get a lot of credit for the Warriors' success as well. After doing great at the Suns and the Clippers, Alvin Gentry did a great job at the Warriors as well to implement his own version of the Princeton offense. His success in it is confirmed by club record in assists (2.248), three-pointers (883, third best in NBA history), and 5.3 points more than last season (109.7 - 104.4). Gentry and Kerr created the offensive end that relies on a lot of assists, cuts and points from transitions. Under Jackson, the Warriors had only pick'n'roll and one-on-one attacks. The defense guru Ron Adam is responsible for progress on the other end of the floor. He helped the Warriors become the kind of a team that can win games even when things aren't going smoothly in offense.

The number one motivator for Kerr's team might as well be the home court as they won 39 games home, with the Spurs and the Bulls being the only teams that managed to get out of there undefeated. Golden State are on a 18-game winning run home, which is not very encouraging for the fierce New Orleans Pelicans, who secured the playoffs on the very last day of regular season. But, that doesn't mean they are harmless either.

- They are a good team, have a lot of talent and we know what Davis is capable of. They fought hard to make it into playoffs the last three weeks and displayed toughness. We'll have to be ready. It won't be a walk in the park - Curry said.

The Pens had quite a lot of injury-struggles this season, which they dealt with pretty successfully despite not having a great choice of players. Of course, Davis had too take most responsibility to finish regular season with an average of 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks. His team lost 3 out of 4 head-to-head meetings with the Warriors, while he missed half of those. In his only trip to Oakland, Davis finished with 30 points and 15 rebounds even though the Pens lost 112-85 in the end. Some ten days ago, Davis lead his team into a 103-100 win with 29 points and 10 rebounds. 

- I played against him at the University. He had made massive progress, no doubt about it. He can cause a lot of damage in the key but can also be successful outside the key. He has more mass now and can get through contact. He really got his game to a higher level and we can't forget that he's great in defense too - substitute center Ezeli said.

Draymon Green will most likely guard Davis or the most part. Green will most likely get the best defense player title but he's shorter than Davis, which could be a problem. We can therefore expect two players guarding Davis sometimes. The Pens are a dangerous opponent for sure but it would be a miracle is they got more than one of two wins in this series.
