Alba have a chance to become the first German team to have reached Euroleague quarterfinals if they manage to beat Maccai tonight. They are on a 3-game winning run in Euroleague, having never conceded more than 68 points during that run. Tough defense is the main characteristic of the Berlin-based team ever since Obradovic took over. We are not to expect anything different from them today. They beat Maccabi in Tel Aviv mid-February by limiting them to 59 points. We could say that the less productive the game, the higher the chance for Alba to get a new great win.

- The fact we can become the first German team to reach quarterfinals is a historic success for German basketball. It would be great if we could reach that goal. We definitely need to play our game but Maccabi are Maccabi. They always do their best in the most important games - Obradovic said and added:

Alba will not be advancing to QFs if they lose today, while Maccabi can get through even with a defeat but in that case, they need Zvezda to beat Panathinaikos in a game that starts later. Alba need to use the tactics from the last match with Maccabi when they put a lot of pressure to opponents' backcourt, forcing them into 18 turnovers. McLean did great in the key in that game (18 points+6 rebounds), while Banic added 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Alba and Maccabi met twice in Euroleague opening stage and Maccabi won both times on account of good performances by their offensive end. The first game in Berlin was the worst one for Alba but McLean was good even back then, just like Redding.

Alba are on a 6-game winning run (all competitions), having recorded a win over Artland in Bundesliga last weekend. It was not easy as they managed to secure the win in the last minute. The center line did the best job, with McLean finishing with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Banic had 12, and Radosevic 11. Those three will have to do take responsibility in the key today as well. Obradovic started Banic at 5 against Artland, has been substituting him with Radosevic throughout the game and used him at 4 when McLean would take a break. Freese and Botterman are not expected to be given a big chance and Redding will have to do everything once again. He has been their main organizer on the floor in the last few games, which left Renford with more room in the shooting segment.

Obradovic can count on of his players today.

Some sort of an attendance record might be broken today since more than 13,000 tickets were sold yesterday and there could be close to 14,500 people at O2 Arena today, which is its maximum capacity. 

The defending champions are in a situation where they can get knocked out this early in Euroleague, which no one expected. Their recent road games are the reason they got themselves into such a tricky situation. Goodes' team beat the lost Galatasaray when Pargo scored a three-pointer in over time, and Zalgiris in Kaunas, while losing to Real, Barca, Zvezda, and Panathinaikos. They now need to survive Berlin in order to make it into QFs. They can even lose and still get through provided that Zvezda beat the Greeks at Pionir.

Maccabi know they are still in control and there's no panicking yet.

- This is like a Final Four game which we need to play against a very aggressive team. The players realize what's at stake here - coach Goodes said.

- This is nothing new for us.

Alba are a tough and tricky opponent capable of throwing their opponents off their attacking rhythm. Maccabi had the chance to experience it first hand hen the Germans limited them to 59 points, which is their worst record of the season. Maccabi won relatively easily in the first part of the season.

- We are going back to Berlin to do something special. I have to believe and pray hard. I learned that everything is in God's hands but I hope our motivation will win this for us - the religious Randle said.

Goodes had trouble with Ohayon's foot injury.

- I'm really worried, he'll play in pain.

Good news is, shooter Landsberg will be back to help Pargo and Haynes. On a side note, Maccabi's top player Smith extended his contract for another three years. As much as Sofoklis or Tyus might be important, the outcome of this game will greatly depend on Smith.
