Portland won in five out of six last rounds, and have a four league wins run at home

In the only match played this Sunday, the teams of the West coast will face each other. Portland have a much better spot on the league table, but are only three points and two matches ahead of San Jose.

The Timbers made a great series in the last few weeks, winning five out of six matches. They got four wins at home, with the total goal difference of 9-1.

Their last win was this past weekend in the neighborly derby against Seattle. They beat Seattle 4-1, thanks to Adi who scored two goals. They joy was killed a bit on Wednesday, when they got beat 2-0 by the Real Salt Lake in the Us Open Cup.

- I'm disappointed we got eliminated, but we can focus all our energy on the championship now. San Jose are a good team, they've got big and strong guys with lots of experience, so we're expecting a real battle - the home team's coach, Caleb Porter, said.

The Earthquakes are in a two-wins run, the last one being against the LA Galaxy last weekend. They lost to them in the Cup, but all the main players rested in that match.

They've got a big problem, though - they've conceded a goal in the 22nd minute or earlier in four out of the last six matches.

- You start a match badly, you get punished and you have to catch up. And it doesn't matter how many chances you make or whether you think you're the better team, you just have to start the match better - San Jose coach, Dominic Kinnear, explained.

Portland won the last two duels, and they'll be missing the standard right back Powell who's playing for the Jamaican national team. But, the guests have even more problems because their best player by far, Wondolowski, is playing for the US national team, and he scored nine goals. The other club scorer, Nyassi, is out finishing his cards, and the standard midfielder Cato is playing the Gold Cup. The three of them scored 12 out of 19 goals for the Quakes...

Portland are in a great form, and they're especially convincing at home where they won the last four league matches with the goal difference of 9-1. They beat San Jose in the last two matches, but the Earthquakes are coming without their best player, Wondolowski, and that's their biggest problem. Not only him, there are other important absences, and they can't really make up for that on the Portland's grass.
