Lowry: This is a great challenge

Both opponents are offense-oriented, with defenses often being on the back burner

L.A. Clippers proved just how much the tough schedule can affect certain teams. After being on a 9-game winning run, the Clippers went on to lose 5 out of the next 8 games, which is not surprise since all 8 were played in only 13 days, three of them back-to-back. Christmas day game with the rivals from Oakland was not easy either, but the Clippers managed to be more productive in defense, which was enough for a 100-86 win that might just be their way out of this crisis.

Doc Rivers' team were completely unproductive for a quarter and a half into the game, which resulted in a 11-point deficit (28-39). But, the 24-5 run in the third quarter saw L.A. team get back in control, leaving the fatigued visitors with no chance.

- That was ugly. Neither team were productive, but winning is nice, even when your game is not that good. We took shots I would always got for in the first half, but they wouldn't work. We got more efficient later on, figured it out and stuck to it - coach Rivers said.

After conceding 106.1 points in the last 8 games, his team managed to limit the best offense of the league to shooting efficiency of only 42.1%, including 6-for-28 in three pointers. Clippers did a particularly good job stopping Curry and Thompson, who combined only 29 points (11-for-30 from the floor and 3-for-15 in three pointers). 

- I think our shooting efficiency was about 17 percent of something like it in the first quarter and we were only two points down, which is why we tried to stay on the right path. The defense helped us win the game. This is a great win for us - Chris Paul said. He finished with 22 points (7-for-18), 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Jamal Crawford recorded team-best 24 points (8-for-18), while Griffin added 18 points (5-for-16), 15 rebounds, and 6 assists. DeAndre Jordan scored 14 points and added 12 rebounds. 

The Clippers are back on track, now having a 12-3 record in their Staples Center where they are to face the top team from the East today.

Despite losing DeRozan late November, the Raptors have been successful in defending top table spot of the East Conference, with Lowry and others beating teams on a negative record. Coach Casey's team has been struggling with those opponents who have over 50% of wins - they ended their 6-game winning run Monday night when they lost to the Bulls, unable to get back to the Chicago-based team for the defeat in Canada last month.

Toronto seemed to be headed in the right direction, ending the first half with a 6-point advantage, which got to 12 points mid-third quarter. A horrific defense performance that allowed the Bulls to score 49 points in the last 12 minutes resulted in a defeat.

- When you lose control against a team such as the Bulls, they make sure to punish you for it - coach Casey said, while Lowry added:

- We didn't play defense and on top of that, they had brilliant efficiency. Which every shot they took ended up successful and we didn't put up any fight. We need to learn something from this defeat. 

While the Raptors recorded field goal efficiency of 44 percent from the floor, the Bulls had 54.1 percent. Bad defense on Toronto's part got the Bulls 47 free throws, 43 of which they scored.

Lowry's brilliant performances (34 points and 6 rebounds) did nothing to help his team. Valanaciunas added 9 rebounds and 20 points.

After starting their 6-game road trip with a defeat in Chicago, the Raptors are to continue it in L.A. today, where they face a very tough challenge. 

- It's going to be a great challenge. We got off to a bad start but there was enough time to get back home, rest and regroup - Lowry said. He's one of the most efficient players in the league, averaging 24.7 points away. We need to point out that his average in the last 4 head-to-head meetings with the Clippers is only 9.3 points. 

But the Raptors proved to not have problems with productivity, but the defense problems surfaced, which is why they need to improve on the defensive end tonight since the Clippers score 47.3% of their attempts, which makes them one of the best teams in the league.
