L.A. Clippers - Indiana (102:100)

Paul: I hope we'll start a new streak

  • Published:

While the Clippers are charging towards the playoffs, the Pacers are happy to get an occasional win. Last Friday at home, they couldn't match the Clippers, so it's hard to expect them to do anything in the Staples Center

The Los Angeles Clippers are sailing through the season, as do most of the elite teams of the West. After winning 11 out of 12 games, including nine in a row, they got two unexpected defeats. But, coming back to the Staples Center easily cured the mini-crisis.

The Pistons were defeated on Monday, 113-91. The first period was evened out, but Doc Rivers's guys convincingly won the following two. They got 27 points away, and most starters watched the end of the game from the bench.

- After losing two games in a row, it seemed like we lost ten. Coming back home and winning like this boosted the mood in the locker room - DeAndre Jordan said. He had 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The Clippers scored 53.8% shots, including 12/24 three pointers. At the same time, they forced the Pistons to have 18 turnovers and limited them to 35/83 field goal.

- I think we just had to see again what it's like to play the defense, and really finish things on the other side of the court. I think we were better than in the two previous games, and that made the offense more efficient. We were better in the defense, too. I hope we can start a new series now - Chris Paul said. He played less minutes, but scored 11 points and had eight assists, with only one turnover after having 12 in the two previous games.

The Clippers are at the top of the league when it comes to the scored points (106.7 p/g), and in their Staples Center, they won nine out of 12 games. That doesn't sound too encouraging for the Indiana Pacers who had a row of eight defeats before crushing the tired Lakers on Monday, 110-91. After 12 minutes already, Frank Vogel's guys were 19 points ahead. When they got away to 60-21, it was obvious who the winner will be, so they relaxed a bit in the rest of the game and allowed the Lakers to get at least a respectable defeat.

- We had great energy, more energy than they did. We simply have to realize that we can't let the whole match be played in the same rhythm. It was obvious they'd increase the pressure and the intensity. We obviously have to deal with that better - coach Vogel said. His team won the rebounds battle 54-38.

The most efficient of the Pacers were C.J. Miles and Rodney Stuckey with 20 points (8/16), while Donald Sloan added 17. David West and Roy Hibbert remained at 12 (5/9), and ten (5/10) respectively.

By defeating the Lakers, the Indiana guys improved their record against the teams from the West to 3-9, and one of those defeats was against the Clippers, 103-96 last Friday. The LA guys gambled the 15 points advantage they had in the first period, and almost did the same thing in the last 14 minutes, when the Pacers almost caught up after being 20 points behind. However, the Clippers managed to focus well enough to finish the job in the final moments. They were lead by Jamaal Crawford with 18 points (7/12), and Blake Griffin added 17 (7/17). On the other side, C.J. Miles stood out with 30 points and 7/14 three pointers.
