Ooostende on a 5-game wining run over Artland

The Belgian champions beat the Dragons twice in Eurocup last year and won the two preseason head-to-head games

Artland opened Bundesliga with 4 convincing wins, only to go on and record two consecutive and very convincing defeats. Bonn beat them by 22 points away, Mitteldeutscher by 15 home. MBC are not a bad team, but the Dragons simply cannot afford to be losing to such an opponent that convincingly. The reason for that defeat is quite clear - the fact Artland scored only 5 three-pointers in 19 attempts saw them lose. On top of that, center King (3-of-9 field goals) had a bad night and did very little to help his team.

- We need to do better against zone defense. We have no offense rhythm - coach Tyron McCoy said.

Artland have it a bit better in Eurocup, having recorded one win and one defeat so far. They now face Oostende, the team that defeated them twice in this Eurocup stage last year. Also, they were defeated twice in preseason to Oostende (62-97, 83-88). The Dragons never managed to concede less than 84 points in any of those four games. 

- Oostende are very well experienced, good in offense and very good in defense. It will be a tough game for us. We know them very well, they will try and record their first European win this season. We are in for a battle - McCoy said.

Point guard Bastian Doreth added:

- I expect us to respond following everyone's bad performance on Saturday. We need to be more aggressive and more intense. We lost the last five meetings with Oostende and that's all motivation we need. We got very close to beating them in the last preseason game. That and the last win over Cantu is a good motif for us.

Oostende were one of Eurocup's most pleasant surprises last season. This season, however, started with their two defeats, which did generate a certain amount of pressure ahead of this game. Their performances are not at last season's level, or at least weren't so far. They have been recording nothing but wins in the Belgian league, but not as convincingly. For example, their win in Brussels last weekend was a result of a single brilliant quarter. Oostende were three points down as the final 10 minutes started and then went on to score 11 points while at the same time preventing the opponent to score any. The score of that final quarter was 29-11 for Oostende. 

J.P. Prince (23 points) did great once again, assisted by point guard Djordjevic who scored 15 points and added 6 rebounds and 7 assist. 

- This game is one of the key matches in the battle for position 4 in the group. We feel that we're getting better by the game. So far, we've been displaying that only in the Belgian championship and the time has come to do it in Eurocup as well - Djordjevic said and added:

- We know they lost the Bundesliga match over the weekend and that is bound to get them motivated. I'm going to have the greatest responsibility - to stop their point guard Holston. They are all very good shooters, especially when it comes to three-pointers and we need to pay attention to that.

Vladimir Mihailovic will probably not be on the visiting ream today.

Artland started the season very well, winning the first four rounds in the Bundesliga, but then dropped in form, which coincided with the start of the Eurocup. They lost three of their last four matches, and the Bonn one was especially painful as Telekom scored 99 points against them. Then they barely managed to beat Cantu and once again allowed an average German league team Mitteldeutscher to score 86. Today they face Oostende, a team they've had pretty poor experiences with lately. They lost five in a row to the Belgians, always conceding with high scores. Last year Oostende also scored 84 and 87 in the Eurocup first round against them, and they also played in preseason, where the Belgian team scored 97 and 88 points, which is all much higher than this margin. Oostende also went over this margin in the last round of the Eurocup against a defensively strong Gran Canaria. Their rosters are the same as last year, as are the coaches, and it's clear Oostende do well against the Artland defense.
