Strasbourg have six wins in a row, are full of confidence and don't mean to stop

Strasbourg have managed to continue their winning streak against Dijon and are now on six-game winning run. After playing the away match in Germany with a larger number of points, Strasbourg have returned to the low numbers against the defense-oriented Dijon. For a full three quarters we've been seeing a true battle, prior to the last quarter the result was only 38-33, but Strasbourg held the reins the whole time and in the end managed to pull the match in their favor.

- That match could be divided int two parts. On the one hand, we prepared a top-defense games; Dobbins, Howard and Toupane contributed a lot. On the other hand, the offense part was catastrophic. Only before the end of the match did we play the way we know - Collet pointed out.


It was a match of catastrophic shooting percentages from both sides (Strasbourg 33%, Dijon 27%), but again the defense game was the key in their win. Strasbourg thus opened up the championship with 4-0. After the defeating Limoges on Monday they are the only ones with maximum effect and considering their away win in Germany in the Eurocup a week ago, the situation can't be better. Collet's troupes are awaiting Zaragoza in an excellent mood and want to continue in the same pace.


- With four championship wins in a row and six in total, we have very good momentum. The team are united, everything is good. However, this season is a marathon, and not a sprint. We still haven't won anything, this is just the beginning - Toupane is aware, and adds:


- Zaragoza are a good team, we will try to stay on our dynamic pace.


Collet said, prior to the away match in Germany, that the Eurocup Top 32 placement is a priority before Christmas and has a bigger meaning than the championship. A good entry and a 4-0 in the league gives Strasbourg a chance to completely focus on the Spanish team's arrival who have, a week ago, already won against one other French team. On home court they've won against Paris with minimum difference and Collet respects them to the fullest.


- They have a high quality front court and they can rely on their strength. They also have a couple of very good shooters. However, I expect a confirmation of the away win in Bonn. They are our direct opponents, ad it would be really good to win. After Wednesday, when we had a really good offense, and a very good defense on Saturday, it would be good for both to finally meet in one match.


Zaragoza lost a match against Valencia on Sunday, but on Monday they've lost something greater. We've written in the ACB League preview that their coach Jose Luis Abos (pictured) left his post because of an illness. On Monday he passed away at the age of 54. The last couple of days haven't been easy for the club, especially for the players who've been working with him for years, such as Norel, Tomas, Fontet, and the temporary coach Ruiz who was his assistant...


But, life goes on and the match has to be played. Each one in the Eurocup will this week start with a minute of silence, and Zaragoza's players and staff will have a special motive. A lot of them are pointing out that today they will be playing for Abos. How that will look like, and whether they will be under the influence of everything - it's hard to anticipate.


- It's always a shock and people don't react the same in such situations. It could make them invincible or very vulnerable - pointed out Strasbourg's coach Collet.


- Strasbourg are the leading team in France and it's going to be hard; we really have to play a tough game, go for a win. We will come out with full concentration - said coach Joaquin Ruiz.


- The defense will be the key. We have to play a tough defense, concentrating especially on their frontcourt players.


Up until now Zaragoza's defense was at a high level. On Sunday, against Valencia, despite their defeat, they've received 77 points, and left Valencia at 44% for two, and 30% for three, but such a rival is impossible to beat with 15/35 for two... Norel had 1/6 for two, and coach Ruiz put Katic in, although the Serbian center only did a couple of practices prior to the season after being added to the team a bit late.


- Honestly, I think we have a good team. We are still learning to play with each other, we still have to adjust a bit - pointed out Marcus Landry.


- Strasbourg have two players who can shoot really well, we have to be ready for them. We have to be ready for a physical basketball because that's the style Strasbourg plays with.
