The deciding factor in this duel for the 7th spot will be motivation. Serbia had none against China yesterday, while France scored just 40 points against Canada in a very poor performance

In this clash between Serbia and France for the 7th place the deciding factor will be motivation. Both teams had much higher hopes for the World Championship. Serbia were eliminated by the hosting Turkey in a thriller finish quarterfinal, which had a demoralizing effect on their players. Visibly fatigued and not too motivated, they suffered a decisive defeat against China yesterday.

The Asian team opened the match with a 10-0 lead, and although the Serbians managed to pull themselves together and get within just 2 points after 7 minutes, another Chinese series followed soon after. The fact their opponents scored 32 points in the first 10 minutes speaks volumes about how Serbia played defense. Their lag was much smaller by halftime (-7), but China continued to hold on to a solid lead, and sealed the deal with 3 three-pointers in a row at the start of the last quarter.

- I said it will be very difficult after the Turkey match. We did not manage to shake that off, which was clearly visible in the match with China. There is no way to prepare for matches such as these, it just takes experience, something these young players mostly don't have. We tried to enter the match with a positive outlook, but you could see they could not put the defeat against Turkey behind them. Realistically speaking, we played badly, a very ugly match. France suffered a defeat of similar magnitude against Canada. The problem for the French is that they just had high hopes and it's simply hard for them to force themselves to play these matches that have no 'purpose'. Yesterday they were a disaster in the first half, scoring just 16 points while conceding 37. Canada put together a 15-0 series that practically decided the match. France woke up a bit in the second 20 minutes, improving their defense and limiting their opponents to just 18 points in that half, but it was all in vain as their offense simply failed to perform, leaving them at 40 points in total.

Their power forward Miyem did not play, which means the World Championship is probably over for her. Selector Valerie Garnier did not even change out the team much, with all the main players playing full time, but only center Gruda playing at her usual level (10 pts, 12 rebs). Their overall shooting was a pathetic 27.3%, with 1/12 three-pointers, and they also commited 21 turnover.

- You cannot beat a serious team like Canada when you score just 40 points, they wanted to win more than we did and that proved to be crucial- said selector Garnier.

Serbia beat France 71-69 in the preparation period, while the French were victorious last year at the Eurobasket, 76-32. All that has little merit under these circumstances, this will be won not by quality but by pure willpower.
