Both coaches looking for tough defense

The first head-to-head finished at only 136 points and given what the teams have been displaying over the past weeks and what the coached are looking for today, we should be in for another tough game

A close defeat for AEK to Rethymno last Saturday was goo for PAOk since they are now only a step away from finishing regular season in spot 3. A win today would basically cemented them in that spot as they would get three wins ahead of the rivals from Athens two rounds before the end. Their city rivals Aris could catch up with PAOK but Prifitis' team would have to beat either PAO or Oly, while PAOK need to lose the last two games, one of which is against Trikala home, which is not very realistic to expect. 

PAOK passed a great test in an away game against Kifisia last round. That game was a very tough battle for each point, as the final score and the fact PAOK scored only 39 points in the first 32 minutes suggest. When Kifisia took a 10-point lead in that moment, it seemed like the game was settled but PAOK soon responded with a 17-2 run and managed to defend home team's last attack to recorded a very important win.

- We knew it would be tough. We got tougher in defense in the second part and had some uncontested shots - Markopolous said.

PAOK do not have any new injury problems ahead of this match. Only Kakaroudis and Haralampidis are still out. PAOK will rely on defense today as well as it limited the opponents to only 55 points on average in the last 3 games. 

- Kolossos are a very good team and they have been proving that in the last 2 months. We need to be focused on defense, which is our strong suit, and make the right choices in offense - Liapis said.

Kolossos made major progress in the last few weeks to win 4 out of the last 5 games. Bit even in that one defeat to AEK, they had a double-digit lead for 30 minutes only to let go in the very end. Kolossos recorded a very good win over Rethymno, the direct rival for spot 6, last weekend.  They controlled the game from the very start, managed to stop fast Rethymno's transition and limited the rival to only 63 points.

- I was a bit worried about how we'll do after a 20-day break. I think our motivation and energy level was right and we managed to carry out our plans for the defensive end well - coach Likogiannis said.

Mid-table teams are all very close and a lot will come down to the outcome of Kolossos-Apollon game. Kolossos won 64-63 after scoring from the free-throw line in the final second. After the game was finished, it was been established that the foul occurred after the time was up and that Apollon should be awarded the win. 

- We have no comment, we are waiting for the decision and hope the win will be ours in the end - the coach said.

Kolossos have been meeting the direct rivals for the playoffs recently and the win in a tough game in Thessaloniki would only be a bonus. Except for the game against Trikala (the fastest paced team in the league) Kolossos recorded wins in the last weeks exclusively through good defense. Given PAOK's style, the visitors know they need to be extra tough today if they want to win. he first head-to-head of the season was a huge battle for each point. PAOK, who were better in key moments. won the last quarter 12-9.
