Paris after the top spot, Narbonne trying to avoid relegation

The defeat to Montpellier saw Narbonne drop to spot 13, which would mean Ligue B next season. Paris failed to take advantage of Cannes' slip as they lost in Lyon

Cannes lost to Saint Nazaire unexpectedly and Paris set out for Lyon thinking that any kind of a win would see them claim the top spot. That idea seems to have affected Rougeyron's players, who didn't play at their top level and got defeated in five sets in the end.

- Unfortunately, Lyon were better than us and won deservedly. I have nothing to complain about, we did our best but it just wasn't working out today. We didn't play a bad game, that I'm sure of - coach Rougeyron said.

And he's right. Paris had offense efficiency of 52%, 6 aces and got defeated only because they had less blocks than the home team.

Since they still have as many points as Cannes, three points today would see them temporarily seize the top spot int he table, while at the same time putting pressure on Cannes, who have a tough away match in Sete to do.

- We are about to enter the last two weeks of regular season and tension has reached its peak. Too bad for the defeat in Lyon but we prepared for Narbonne well and learned our lessons from that defeat. We cannot think it will be easy, Narbonne are fighting to avoid relegation and they really have nothing to lose. A win would, at least temporarily, see us go top table and put pressure on Cannes - Paris' coach said.

A two-week break didn't bring about peace at Narbonne, quite the contrary. They dropped to spot 13 as they lost to Montpellier and now face relegation because Nantes have better set-difference.

- It's hard to say anything smart after this kind of a defeat. We were weakened, Diaz is a very important player for us, but we had our chances. We lost the first set in the very end after which we experienced a mental decline. We have enough time to prepare the last two games, we'll have Diaz by the time we play in Paris and we'll try and surprise them - coach Martin said. 

The memories of last season's drama surrounding their bid to avoid relegation are still fresh. Narbonne were relegated but Cantelue dropped out of Ligue A, which got Narbonne back in. They definitely want to avoid that kind of stress this season. 

- It's no secret that we are looking into every possible outcome, including the one in which we stay in the league through an administrative decision again. Still, I hope this time, we earn Ligue A on the floor - president Ribourel said.

Martin scheduled a match with the Canadian national team during the break since they've been preparing in Montpellier. The opposite Falasca missed the match with a muscle problems, but Diaz and Mrozek were there. Mrozek miraculously recovered from a major injury to see his team lose 1-3, but that's not important. 

Falasca joined the practice sessions Monday but Wendt is more likely to start at the opposite position. 

- Set difference might decide in the race for spot 12 and even if we lose today, we need to get at least a set. I don't know if Falasca will be ready, but Wendt has my complete trust - Martin said.
