Caserta - Virtus Bologna (81:76)

Both teams with a series of three wins

  • Published:

Caserta are waking up and Esposito assembled a team with a great defense. Bologna scored 80 points per match in the last three, but Caserta only concede 62, so that segment will be among the crucial ones in this match

Except for the leading teams, Caserta and Bologna are teams in the best form right now, and come to this match each with a series of three wins. Bologna are back in the fight for the playoff now, with the same number of points as Cantu. Caserta, on the other hand, got three wins after a series of 14 defeats, and obviously the numerous changes in the team finally bore fruit, so now they're in a much better mood while trying to get away from the bottom of the league table, and to ensure they stay in the league in the end.

After two wins at home, they celebrated away for the first time in the last round. It was against Brindisi. Esposito obviously assembled the team right, especially the defense who conceded 60 and 53 points in the last two matches. Domercant proved to be a real leader, and a player who has great chemistry with everyone on the court. The hero of the win against Brindisi was their own ex player who came to Caserta mid season. Ivanov scored 25 points and had eight rebounds. The three point shot was crucial, they had 10/25, and Scott scored three, ending up with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Esposito is content with the game so far, but aware they still have a lot to do:

- We have to be very determined in every match, play great defense we showed in the last rounds. We have to work on the ball movement in the offense, and improve our pick game. Even though Micherori is missing, we had a good week of practices where Domercant was fitting in with the rest of the team.

The young Bologna's team are a proof that you can make a quality team without lots of money, and also make a stake for the future. After the last three matches, and three wins, everyone in the club is euphoric because now they're in for the playoff. Lead with a great Ray, the young Fontecchio and Imbro are improving rapidly, and with Reddick who came from Pesaro, they filled the slot under the hoop.

His minutes are getting bigger, and in the last duel against Orlando, he had a double-double effect in 17 minutes - 15 points and 10 rebounds. His team played a great second half-time, won 40-26, and ended up celebrating 72-63 with 21 points by Ray.

Coach Valli is content with his team's game, and they practiced for the match in Caserta this last week:

- They're a new team now, they changed half the team, and are now lead by a third coach. He found a good balance within the team, and they're lead by Domercant and Ivanov. Now they can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and they won't stop till they catch it - the coach was descriptive.

Bologna are currently the worst team when it comes to the two-pointers (423%), and that could be a problem against Caserta's aggressive offense. On the other hand, Caserta have to be dominant under the hoop to not allow second offenses.

It's interesting that Bologna scored 80 points per match in this winning series, and Caserta only conceded 62, so this will definitely be one of the key segments in this match.

Things are coming to their place in Caserta. The nightmare from the first part of the championship is slowly being forgotten, and that's thanks to coach Esposito. Even though half the team has been replaced, he built in them the defensive mentality they were expected to show since the season began, when they pointed out they're a defensive team. After 14 defeats, they lined up three wins, and conceded only 56.5 points per match in that period. Each match is really important for them to get away from the relegation one, so they'll bite today. This match is important to Bologna, too, who are trying to get to the playoff, so there won't be a lack of tension. They're a positive surprise, a team this young always comes with weaknesses. Theirs is the two-pointer shot, making them the worst in the league. With Caserta's rejuvenated defense, I don't see how they could go over their average, which is the margin set here. You should definitely take it considering the trend.
