Inter will rest their key players

  • Published:

The away team had goalless draws in their first two rounds, and would be very happy if the series continued

In the Sunday derby against Napoli, Inter closed the gap twice and almost won in the final seconds of injury time, with Mazzarri's team playing well and looking aggressive, but they reacted poorly on defense once again, and Callejon was quick to punish them. Considering that Inter scored just a single victory in their last four matches, against much weaker Qarabag in the Europa League, it's clear that doubt clouds Appiano Gentile once again regarding the fact Mazzarri is the second best paid coach in Seria A. A third European victory in the group would improve the impression, although the fact is Mazzarri is primarily expected to get Inter back into the Champions League this season.

Mazzarri chose his words carefully when talking of their next opponent:
- We studied them and have a lot of respect for them. They are a prestigious team and this will be a very stimulating match for us, insofar as we want to see if we can go on from where we left off against Napoli. I want to see my team have the right attitude from the tactical and mental standpoint.

Inter's coach would most probably like to spare his key players in this match, such as forward Palacio who cramped up at the end of the Napoli match, but it's hard to believe he will do so as he still cannot count on forward Osvaldo, meaning he has no adequate replacement for his Argentinian forwards Palacio and Icardi. Mazzarri's second problem are injuries of D'Ambrosio and Nagatomo, but the good news is Jonathan is back, and will almost certainly start right away. It is expected that midfielder Kovačić will sit this one out with a minor injury he got while playing for his national team, and Guarin will be starting instead.

ASSE are the only team among the 40 Europa League participants who have a 0-0 ratio after two rounds. The management were not too happy with the first two no-score draws, but nobody would regret it much if they continued the series today.

- Inter are a major favorite and for us this is primarily a chance to learn and gather experience. Neither me or the players are under any pressure to achieve a result- said coach Galtier, noting that the Milan team are extremely strong physically, and that it will be very hard to parry them in that segment.

On Saturday they scored their first goal after about 300 minutes of play-time and won three points against Lorient. In the same (or even longer) period they also conceded only one, against Toulouse.

They'll be missing an important back, Clerc. His substitute Theophile-Catherine has had time to adjust since arriving from Cardiff, it we're not sure he can match the class of Clarc. Their best scorer Erding has been out for a while.

They will have more than adequate support at San Siro, estimates say that more than ten thousand fans from all over France are coming to support them.
