Simić: I'm not convinced in the win against IFK

  • Published:

Malmo lost by five in the last round despite 23 saves by their goalie. A big shock before the away game against the first favorite for the gold who crushed Drott by 13 points

Malmo players messed up everything they could in the last round of Elitserien, when they went to play an away game against the local rival Ystads. They got a pretty convincing defeat despite Simić having a fantastic number of 23 saves.

- I'm pretty happy we dealt with them for the first 30 minutes because they played an almost perfect match - Malmo coach Sivertsson said.

But, his goalie Simić didn't feel like joking. He realized that his team oscillated a lot in the first part as well, and quickly gambled away the two goals advantage they had thanks to a 4-0 series, giving YIF a chance to get an advantage before going for a break.

- As the match went on, the more difficult it was to get to their goal. I think we became too predictable - Simić said.

- When someone has 23 saves, and you manage to concede almost 30 goals, and lose the match convincingly, you have to question your quality. It's amazing how much we lacked counter attacks, and routine.

An interesting thought, especially about the routine because that's what Malmo's experts usually rely on in tough games. Like an away game against YIF, and now against Kristianstad, those are definitely very demanding games played in Elitserien.

- I think we missed out on our chances against Ystads. Now we have a double match against Kristianstad where we should win at least once, but I'm not convinced in it - Simić was skeptical, as was Sivertsson:

- We're going to an away game against a team who lined up 15 wins. We can't expect much.

Besides winning, Kristianstad also play great handball. They showed it the best way possible in the last round by crushing Drott by 13 goals difference. Only two years before, that same Drott defeated them in the playoff finals and took the champion title. Now things are completely different, Kristianstad seem untouchable.

- Of course we're happy with what we showed, but we don't want to stop. We take one match at a time, and line up wins as far as it goes - Ole Lindgren stated.

There's one info that could really work for them. Malmo's great pivot Pecikoza got a direct red card against YIF in the last minute, so he shouldn't play the following match. But, there's no record of it in the official score sheet. Of course, it's not the same if the guests play with him or without him, but the fact is that IFK's defense is so firm right now that him potentially playing doesn't even play that big of a role.

What Kristianstad camp are dealing with much more is the question of the goalie. YIF asked a really high damage, 300 000 Krona, for Ohlander who was brought recently, so IFK decided to look some more. It seems they'll solve the deal with the 26-year-old Magnus Dahl. His coach Ege claims it's been solved already, but IFK confute that, but also confirm they're having good negotiations. The transfer should take place after Christmas, when Ohlander could go back to YIF.

- The players have to focus on the game, and the leaders have to solve the questions. I don't want my team to be bothered by who's coming, who's leaving, if anything happens at all. The only thing we have to think about is Malmo, because they're not some green team who don't know anything, and it won't be easy against them - Ola is warning.

What makes him say that is probably the first match where IFK celebrated by only one goal difference. But, it's not the same to play in Malmo or at the home court, especially when Sivertsson's team misses so many important players. Accordingly, Kristianstad should be a big favorite today, and with a serious approach, they shouldn't let their regional rival create any surprises.
