Ystads - Kristianstad (28:26)

YIF's coach criticized his side severely

  • Published:

Krsistianstad did another EHF Cup match following a shocking defeat, and we cant be sure how well prepared they are for the meeting today. It's still not sure their goal keeper Buetler will play

Drott managed to surprise a much more experienced Ystads to beat them home. The visiting team had their chances but in the key moments of the game seemed like the less experienced team.

- We were all hoping for a win and I think we would have won if we played our game. But there was not much we could do. The defense was not good in the first half, and later on - there were problems everywhere. I'm trying to find the silver lining in that defeat, but I can't really - coach Seifert said.

He was particularly disappointed because his team proved they are capable of doing well. They were down 4-2, and managed to get in a 7-4 lead. In the second half when Drott were ahead 18-17, Ystads got in the lead again, but couldn't win in the end.

- It's amazing how many stupid mistakes we made as soon as we got ahead. We were under stress instead of letting Drott to stress out. Our shooting was horrible, some shots were so weak they barely reached the goal. That's no way to score against any goal keeper in Eliteserien - YIF's coach said and added:

- We weren't dangerous in the second half at all - there was no way for us to find a solution for their very aggressive, offense oriented defense. We talked about it earlier, and I expected us to play much faster. I still think that should have been out strategy, but we failed to do it. I would be able to find justification for such a performance if it was a result of some changes Drott made in their game, but they did nothing surprising - we have analyzed absolutely everything, and this only goes to prove it that a great preparation period doesn't necessarily mean success at the start of the season.

It's been surprising that YIF struggled so much against the defense that left a lot of room for the league's top lineman Bager. But their next opponent Kristanstad and their shallow 6-0 defense will not be causing them those problems. That doesn't mean Ystads will have it much easier - Kristianstad had the best defense in the league last year, and they won all of their three head-to-head meetings last season.

- They have been the most challenging opponent. A few new signings joined, our Larsson being one of them, but I think O'Sullivan, Bjornsen, and my old 'friend' Stenbacken are much more useful for them.

Stenbacken could have joined YIF, but decided to become a fitness coach instead. He now got back to playing handball, which clearly hasn't sit too well with Seifert. He is happy about the media making his opponent the favorite though:

- Kristianstad have set their goals high, but we have to see whether they'll be able to deal with the pressure. It will be a great derby match as always and an interesting game.

The visiting team are, just like Seifert said, under a lot of pressure, especially after losing home to their great rival Lugio in the season opener. It was a horrific start for the team that don't like losing to Lugio. Besides, their fans are always very disappointed if that happens. The fact that was Lugio's forth consecutive win over Kristianstadt is particularly worrying. The analysts agree it was Beutler's injury that caused the defeat to a great extent. He was on the goal but hasn't been doing as well as expected.

- I felt it during the warm up. It was obvious I wasn't in full training for a week and a half. I was supposed to spend 60 minutes in the game with Lugio and then less time in the EHF Cup game. But it seems like I won't have 60 minutes in two of those combined - the goal keeper said.

He left the Lugio game after 17 minutes, and didn't even play in EHF Cup. That meeting was like a tougher practice session for Kristianstadt, they won 30-17, displaying a much better game before their fans. Captain Jepson didn't even play that game.

- It was Lindgern's call. Jepson was fit and ready to play - doctor Walden said.

The young Tollbring took his position over and had a good performance. There's no information on the line up for today's game so we don't know whether Jepson will play, and whether Beutler will be on the goal. We also have to wait and see how well prepared the visiting team are for this match since their schedule is very busy this early in the season.
