49ers' QB: We want to win

Unlike the visitors, the 49ers stand no chance of reaching the playoff, but we should not doubt they will do their best regardless. But, they will not have quite a few important important players, which the Chargers should be able ti take advantage of

San Francisco 49ers are back among the best NFL teams the last few years, thus reclaiming the elite status such a franchise deserves. The man behind that success is Jim Harbaught, who lead the 49ers into the playoff three consecutive seasons and one Super Bowl they ended up losing to the Ravens, lead by his younger brother John.

The Californian team's ambition was running high ahead of the season but numerous injuries, the non-football related problems the players were forced to deal with and great competition in NFC West resulted in the 49ers not qualifying for the playoff, which could see coach Harbaugh leave even though he still have one more year on his contract. 

- I would rather talk about all the things I'm proud of, a lot of good stuff is left unnoticed. I don't want to think about anything else but the game on Saturday - the coach said. His team won total of 36 games in the last 3 seasons.

They recorded their 7th defeat of the season and the third consecutive failure last Sunday in Seattle when they lost 17-7. It was the seventh of the last 8 games in which the 49ers didn't record more than 17 points. Their QB is having horrible passer rating of 54.3 on the losing run, which is much lower than in the first 11 games (92.1).

- We want to win no matter what, no one on the team will step out on the field thinking the season is over. We will go there to fight. There two more games left for us to prove we can play football - Kaepernick said after passing for only one touchdown in the last 3 games, while being sacked 15 times (sacked 49 times in total) and recording 4 interception in the same period of time. 

Injuries might be the biggest reason for the 49ers poor results. They were without their linebacker Willis and Bowman, Smith got back to playing only recently, while Brooks dislocated a finger. Right tackle Anthony Davis might not play with concussion that saw his miss the last 4 games.

The best tackler Borland is probably our for the season as well, while the management released McDonald after his second run-in with the last in a very short period of time. 

Given all that, the 49ers have stayed in the playoff race for long enough, which confirms Harbaugh should definitely stay.

Unlike the home team, the San Diego chargers still have a shot at reaching the playoff, how ever modest. Even after losing to the Patriots, they had their future in their own hands, but the defeat to the Broncos last Sunday means they now need to hope that the Ravens or the Steelers will slip at least once. 

- We have two very important games ahead and we need to focus on that. This is the time to show how good we know we can play - wide receiver Royal said.

The Chargers will probably be without their top receiver Allen (77 catches for 783 yards and 4 TD's) and running back Mathews, who missed the duel with the Broncos with an injury.

- They will be missed, there's no question about it - QB Rivers said. He's struggling with a few minor injuries, but isn't planning on missing the two key games. 

River's December and January record is 33-8 throughout his carrier, with only Tom Brady recording better numbers since 2004. If this game was taking place a month ago, the 49ers would have been the favorite, but given the situation, the Chargers seem like a much better choice despite probably being the least consistent team in the league.
