Bosnia and Herzegovina - Wales (2:0)

Bosnia has to attack, counterattacks are Wales' strength

  • Published:

Bosnia and Herzegovina will most likely have to win both remaining games in order to finish third in this group. Wales already secured a spot in Euro, meaning they are much more relaxed ahead of the match in Zenica

Bosnia have done this qualifying cycle rather disappointingly. They stand no chance of a direct qualification ahead of the last two games but they can still reach spot three.

The Bosnians no longer have their faith in their own hands because Israel are two points up, meaning that Bosnia would not be able to catch up with them if Israel win both remaining games. However, it won't be easy for the Israelis to get all 6 points since they meet Cyprus and Belgium. Bosnia, on the other hand, are set to face Wales home first and then travel to Cyprus. They hope that they could win both of those games, but there will have to be a lot of improvements in their game for that.

Bosnia can be happy with the fact Wales meet Andorra and in the last and have already basically secured the qualification and with the possibility that Cyprus don't stand a chance ahead of the last round. But, that still doesn't mean Gareth Bale and others won't do their best in Zenica.

- Wales are no surprise for me. They are a football nation that has been making progress for year and that has been investing in football. All of their players are in good clubs and I can only congratulate them on what they've done so far in this qualifying cycle. I still hop that they will be the ones congratulating us for the win today - Bosnia's coach Bazdarevic said. His by far the greatest concern ahead of this game is top scorer Dzeko's injury. He practices last night but we have to wait and see whether he'll start on the pitch or on the bench.

- Dzeko participated in the practice session last night and I believe he will be either on the bench or on the pitch tonight. Our medical team did everything in their power - Bazdarevic said. His team has to take risk today even though they know what Bale is capable of when he has enough room.

- We are used to the pressure and the players are ready to attack Wales in this game - home team's goal keeper Begovic said.

A lot of small countries have reached 'Platini's dream' and managed to qualify for this Euro. Wales are only one point away from that goal that can be reached in Zenica. If they fail today, Wales not need to worry as they face Andorra the the next round.

It is therefore very clear that Coleman's team can approach this game stress-free. They can wait for nervousness and mistakes on the home team and they use their strength - counter attacks. Wales have scored many goals through counter attacks and there is no reason for them to change that strategy.

- We are ready for this tough game that is crucial for Bosnia. We still want to do well but we always face 11 players on the pitch. t doesn't matter who will or won't play for Bosnia. Both teams are struggling with injuries, us included - visiting coach Coleman said. He cannot count on defenders Ricketts and forward Cotterill.

- Edin Dzeko is a good player but we are not focused on an individual. We are focused on the entire home team and on us. We are happy with what we did so far but there are still challenges ahead. Bosnia are a good team and not only Dzeko will be a problem - team captain and central defense figure Williams of Swansea said. Reading's Robson-Kanu expects a close game, just like the one they played in Cardiff last October (0-0).

- Both teams were pretty close in that game. We will play a tough game in Zenica. The atmosphere will be more hostile than we are used to but the fact Bosnia need this win will work for us. We are well-organized, with fast players and good forwards. Everything will revolve around Bale but we are a powerful team and that is our secret - Robson-Kanu said.

Wales never beat Bosnia in three head-to-head games but they played two draws. This is their first ever game in Zenica.
