Even though this is the first game, both teams will probably find this to be the crucial game in getting the last spot for the next round in this group

The Chinese have returned to the grand stage this summer through the World League. They were in the third group and they reached the finals where Cuba beat them by 3-2. Coach Xie Guochen has given up on rejuvenation of his squad and reinstated the experienced players like Yuah Zhi and Weijun Zhong, which proved to be the right move.

Very little is know about China. The only results available are those from the Wagner Memorial where they lost to Russia and Poland without winning a single set and got into the fifth set against Bulgaria. Nothing has changed in comparison to World League, Guochen will not give up on his tactical ideas - defense and quick transformation into offense.

A few years ago, Egypt had a huge momentum and the question is how things would have panned out for them if not for the political situation in their country. First they got out of the World League three years ago, their club volleyball disappeared and they didn't have the league for a year and a half, while most players stagnated. The only players that got some playing time are opposite Abdelhay, receiver  Badawy, middle blockaer Moneim and setter Abdalla, but the latter didn't make it into the 14-man squad for this WC. That's a huge surprise as he was their best player along with Abdelhay, a very lucid setter with an excellent block and serve.

Very little is known about their preparations. Before heading to Europe, they had two friendly games with Tunisia, who are also here. "The Pharaohs" won by 3-0 and and 3-1, and then beat Algeria by 3-0. After that, they moved to Italy where they played 4 games against their junior team. They were only 50% successful. With their best squad, they won by 3-0 and 4-0, but as soon as their coach introduced the players from the bench, they lost both games in five sets.

What they are missing is the continuity at the top level, as they haven't played at a world competition in a while and even though most of their players were at the last WC four years ago, their capabilities are still a mystery to everyone.

A very important game for both teams and I'm sure that both teams will go in with maximum dedication. China did alright in the World League, they played the finals of the third group where Cuba defeated them by 2-3. Their coach Gouchen brought the identical team and this means they will rely on Zhi and Weijun. Egypt have stagnated in last two years as the difficult political situation in their country was reflected on volleyball but things seem to have gotten back to normal. Abdelhay, Badawy and Moneim are three very good players but they will mostly rely on Abdelhay. Even though this is the first WC match for both teams, the stakes are high. Considering the rest of the opposition in this group, it's hard to expect the team which loses this game to come back so this should be a real battle. Their last match is from World Cup 201 from World Cup and the African team won by 3-0. Today, I don't expect either team to win in three sets and the 180.5 point margin seems too low.
