Valencia - Granada (4:0)

Visitors dealing with a lot of problems ahead of the game at Mestalla

  • Published:

Valencia are doing great home this season, with their chances getting even better today as the visitors deal with massive injury of injury-struggles

Valencia played a great game at Camp Nou but after you ruin a few good attempts, including a penalty kick, it is very clear Barcelona will punish you for it. But, luckily for Valencia, Sevilla played a draw precisely against Granada last round which means the home team are still in a spot leading into Champions League.

- We are about to have the key week of the season. The three games we'll play in it will tell us more about our potential achievements this season. We should be the favorites against Granada on paper but they proved to be a very tricky opponent last round. They need points and we need to take them very seriously - coach Nuno Espirito Santo said.

Defender Mustai got injured in a practice session this week and remains questionable to this moment. In case he's not ready, Ruben Vezo, who just recovered from an injury and is not at his best, should step in. Enzo Perez has been injured for a while.

The point Granada won against the heavy favorites from Sevilla doesn't actually mean much for them. They stayed in the second to last place in the table, six points away from positions resulting in relegation.

Valencia won 13 out of 16 home games this season, with their only defeat being to the top table team from Barcelona. In spite of less than favorable stats, Abel Resino has no choice:

- We need to try and win in Valencia, we have no choice. In order to get three points there, we need to be perfect in defense. Once we make sure our goal is safe, we can be sure a few opportunities in offense will present themselves. When they do, we need to use some of them. It doesn't seem to be complicated at first but we need to be at our absolute best in order to win.

The visiting coach talked about his team's fixture schedule for this week:

- This kind of a schedule is really discriminatory to small clubs like Granada. Our next opponents Getafe and Espanyol will have two days more to prepare for the match, which is a huge upper hand for them. I don't know why the small teams are always being punished like that?

Granada's midfielder Bangoura and defender Nyom had some injury-problems after the Sevilla game but both will be ready to play today. Murillo, Silvestre, Colunga, Marquez, and Babin are our from before. There is some chance that midfielder Marquez and forward Colugne make it on the list today but it's more likely they won't be ready until the next round. Midfielder Ruben Perez will be out with a suspension today, while winger Ibanez cannot play because he's Velancia's player on loan at Granada.
