Deportivo did surprisingly well in coach Sanchez's debut

The Champions League city derby clash is the main focus at Atletico, but Sevilla and Valencia are both breathing down their necks in La Liga

Deportivo are not in brilliant form but a point they won at San Sebastian deserves respect. The team from La Coruna was doing good on the pitch for the first time in a while and got a point in the normally very tough away game deservedly. That point kept them away from the danger zone, but things are far from being settled there.

Putting Victor Sanchez in charged turned out to be the right decision for Deportivo but the new coach knows their task today will be much more difficult than last week:

- What to say about Atletico, they are a top-level team. Simeone has created a great team that always play at a very high level and that we can all look up to. They are dangerous in defense, offense, in set-pieces and don't seem to have any shortcomings. I don't know how Champions League will affect their performance and what their approach to the game at Riazor will be like, but we need to make sure we do our best.

Defender Luisinho is back after missing the last game with a suspension but the coach now can't count on midfielder Borges for the same reason. Cezary Wilko has been injured from before.

Atletico got only one point against Malaga, which kept them in spot three, but also got Valencia only one point and Sevilla 4 points behind. However, the main focus for Atletico was the Champions League clash with Real last Tuesday. The second leg is taking place next week.

- Champions League is important for us but finishing in spot three in the championship is no less important. We have no right for a slip in La Coruna when we meet a brave squad that proved they can be very dangerous last round. Teams fighting to avoid relegation always find extra strength and can be very dangerous late in the season - Simeone said.

He said there will be some chances to the lineup that played Madrid. Mandzukic and Suarez are out with minor injuries, while Fernandez needs to sit this one out with a suspension.
