Last season's second-tiers both in fine form

Cordoba are out of the danger zone for the first time this season, while Eibar even have the chance to join the race for Europe

Miroslav Djukic got himself a reputation as a coach capable of saving a poor-performing team from relegation as he lead Valladolid a few years ago. That Valladolid's team was not playing attractive football, they would be tough and defense-oriented when necessary, which caused a struggle for many of their opponents. When the Serbian expert took over at Cordoba, the Andalusian club had just hit rock bottom, but Djukic worked hard and managed to get things functioning again. Following two straight wins against Granada and Rayo, Cordoba managed to get out of the danger zone for the first time this season. The spirits at the home team are high:

- It's nice to be out of the danger zone, but what is most important for me is that my team grows each next day and that is still see room for improvement. We have prevailed with hard work, dedication and sacrifice, and high intensity in defense. Those need to be the characteristics of our game all the time - any kind of loss of focus would be lethal at this point - Djukic said.

Djukic has top scorer Ghilas back at his disposal, but since Ghilas just recovered from an injury might not be given a start. New signings Edimar (defender) and Bebe (forward) are set to start the game. Defender Inigo Lopez aggravated his injury last round, while Ekeng left the team for African Cup of Nations.

Both Eibar and Cordoba used to be second-tiers and many regarded Eibar as the first candidate for relegation at season's end. The Bask team opened the season well, but the experts constantly expected their decline. But half way through the season, coach Garitan's team is still going strong. Eibar got all 6 points that were up for grabs in the last 2 rounds as they met Espanyol and Getafe to get closer to the race for Europe and quite far away from the danger zone.

- We're in great form, but Cordoba are just as good. This is the best period they've had this season. Djukic made them powerful in defense, they concede very little goals and that makes them powerful. That kind of a game saw them getting points and I don't think they will be giving up on it any time soon. As for us, I will point it out once again - we can lost to anyone. We can't think that holding spot 8 in the table means our opponents will lose without any effort. We need to keep on playing our best game, that's the only way to keep on record good results - Garitano said. 

After being out with an injury for a few weeks, goal keeper Jaime Jimenez got back to practicing this week, but still won't be at coach's disposal. That is not a huge problem though, with brilliant Xabi Irureta turning into Garitano's first choice goal keeper this season. Defender Ander Capa won't be joining the team for a trip to Andalusia with a suspension.
