Real Sociedad - Barcelona (1:0)

Barcelona's track on Anoeta isn't good

  • Published:

Real and Atletico got defeated in San Sebastian, and the Basques are eager to get their third "scalp" tonight

Real Sociedad have been known as one of the most uncomfortable hosts in the league for years, but this season, they lost points on Anoeta, even against weaker clubs, like Almeria and Getafe. However, before hosting one of the biggest Spanish clubs, it's important to mention that the great ones like Real and Atletico were defeated in San Sebastian this season, and Valencia missed out on winning, as well.

Real didn't shine this season, but coach David Moyes is feeling optimistic:

- My players showed they don't fear Barcelona last season already, and they can defeat them at their home field. Yes, I agree our opponent today is one of the strongest teams in the world, and we have respect for that. Still, I'm hoping my players will be really motivated and know how to answer them, and win. If we managed to defeat Real and Atletico in a season that hasn't been that great so far, I don't see why we couldn't defeat Barcelona.

One of the main reasons for Real's weaker season is the numerous injuries, and the situation is far from ideal before the Catalonians arrive. The midfielder David Zurutuza, the defenders Carlos Martinez and Joseba Zaldua are still out, and the great Mexican defensive player Carlos Vela is questionable.

Barcelona played the first part of the season better than decently, but since their greatest rival from Madrid isn't losing that often, the Catalonians have to keep winning to stay in the race for the title.

- There's still a lot of time left till the end of the season and I think we can catch up with Real, but our drawback is that we started the year behind, so we can't afford one wrong step. In the first game in San Sebastian, we have to get three points which can be crucial in our hunt for Real. In the last four years, we've been defeated on Anoeta four times, and had two ties, which tells you how difficult away game that always is. But, that's what will motivate us, and it'll be a real test of our quality. We have to play the best we can, with high intensity, or we won't fare well - Luis Enrique Martinez is aware of the difficulty lying ahead of his team.

Dani Alves has trained in full capacity in the last few days, but since the medical staff still didn't give him the green light, we probably won't be seeing him on the field today.
