Borussia finally lifted off the bottom of the table

Borussia went to Freiburg to win 3-0 and finally escape the bottom of the table. They are expected to keep on improving and winning points. Mainz's defeat to Hertha complicated their good start of the second part of the season

Borussia were under a lot of pressure to do well ahead of the meeting in Freiburg. Nothing short of a win was acceptable but the team from Dortmund have not won the previous 5 rounds. Unlike in those games, the tragic mistakes were courtesy of home team's defense. Aubameyang intercepted one ill-conceived pass to assist for Rues' goal and went on to score two himself in the second part to take Freiburg down. Some of the pressure had been lifted off their chest, but this is only the beginning of the road for Borussia.

- I'm happy for the win, my players needed such a success to break the mental barrier. I believe our streak will continue even though it won't be easy. Any kind of holding back is off the table - Klopp said last week.

Reus had his contract extended till 2019 and that created even better atmosphere in Dortmund. After losing two top players Lewandowski and Gotze in the last two seasons, the are thrilled to know that Reus will stay.

- His singing of the contract made the atmosphere even better. I believe that optimism will get us out of the relegation zone as soon as possible - Kagawa said.

It seems that Klopp won't make any changes to the lineup that took on Freiburg. He won't have Blaszczykowski at his disposal today, while Durm, Grosskreutz, Bender, and Kehl remain out.

Klopp will go with the usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Aubameyang as the striker and Kamla, Kagawa, and Reus just behind him.

Mainz opened the second part of the season well but then met Hertha and ruined it all. We can only wonder how the game would have ended if their goal keeper Karius hadn't been sent off 32 minutes in the game and if that foul hasn't seen the opponents awarded with a penalty. It was 0-2 by half time and not even the fact visitors were left with 10 players in the second half helped. Lots of missed shots and bad responses resulted in Mainz losing points. 

Even though they have only one win in the last 12 rounds, the fact Mainz lost only 3 out of the last 10 away games calls for caution at Borussia and provides the visitors with extra optimism.

- Everyone knows we will go to Dortmund as the underdog but we believe in our quality. We beat them in the first head-to-head and that say a lot - coach Hjumland said.

He will have to do without the aforementioned goal keeper Karius who will be replaced by Kapino today. Hofmann is back following a major injury (Borussia's player on loan at Mainz) while Koreans Koo and Park might play. Defender Bengtsson and midfielder Clemens have better chance to make it in the lineup than the Korean duo but Hjulmand might change his mind. He needs fast players today.
