Both United and Everton fear their own defenses

ManUnited still have lots of absences in the back line, and Rooney isn't playing because of the cards. The guests are scared by Falcao and the defense's blunders, which annulled the offense's effect a few times

Manchester United managed to defeat West Ham 2-1 in the last round, and to abate the effect of the disaster in Leicester and other blunders at the beginning of the season, but it's still far from the game expected from them. Wayne Rooney also did something reckless, a foul that earned him a red card, and eliminated him from the following three matches, starting today against Everton. Louis van Gaal is still struggling with the lineup because of the numerous injuries, especially in the back line. 

It all announces a demanding challenge against Everton, even though the guests aren't consistent with their results either. On Thursday, they had a tough match in the Europa League in the Russian Krasnodar. 

- The situation with the absences is still serious, but this week and in the last match, the young McNair came up for the center back position, and Mata will start as a forward instead of Rooney. It won't be easy without our captain, but I believe everyone will be up to their tasks. A break in the championship will do good, so most players can rest and recover, but before that, we have to do everything to defeat Everton - van Gaal said. He lost the midfielder Herrera, and Rojo will start as the second center back. 

- The fact is that we're still exploring ideas of what we want to do on the field, but there's no reason to fear any challenge, especially when we play on the Old Trafford - van Gaal concluded.

Everton will happily remember last year when they defeated Manchester United on the Old Trafford, when United were limping with David Moyes. But, only one win in six rounds isn't something Roberto Martinez would be satisfied with.

He's having problems with the absences, too, and players who aren't ready enough, even though two ties against Liverpool and Krasnodar can be considered a success. Besides, in three away matches in the championship this season, Martinez's team haven't been defeated yet. 

- We showed a great character against Liverpool and Krasnodar, and energy to save lost games and get a point by scoring a goal in the final moments. It's definitely a big incentive for the following challenges, the first one being against Manchester United - Everton coach pointed out. The wing forward Mirallas is out, and the game creator Barkley's been out before. The defense also had plenty of mistakes.

- We're going to Old Trafford aware of the challenge, especially for our defense that'll be threatened by Falcao, by far the most dangerous player from the home team in my opinion, he constantly changes places and can be dangerous from any direction. We'll need the maximum focus and decisiveness in the game, but if we defeated our big rival twice in a row, I don't see why we wouldn't believe we can do it for the third time - Martinez hopes. He'll set a thick midfield so the back line wouldn't be left for taking because Di Maria, Falcao and Van persie are all players who can solve anything with one move.
