John cannot be happy with his start to the season. He played three tournaments and has not recorded straight wins at any of them. That is just not good for someone of his reputation. Also, he lost all three as a favorite. He might not have been a heavy favorite but still, he should have done better. Interestingly, it was serve that destroyed him in the last meeting in Memphis. He won a set, didn't allow a single break point and still lost (two tie breaks).

John played one DC match as well and beat Laaksonen.

He lost seven service games in 7 matches and has not allowed break points just once (Young). He clearly isn't at his top level yet.
