The Swiss hasn't dropped a single set in qualifiers and she has over 100 wins in her carrier in these conditions, one of them against Ostapenko from 2015. However, she is 1-12 against Top 50 players this and last two seasons. Ostapenko had Pliskova on the ropes at AO but her record against players outside of Top 100 is 6-6 this and last season

The Swiss has reached her third main draw this season. At AO, she won all three matches in three sets and then beat Nara in the main draw. She managed to get to the main draw without dropping a set in Shenzhen and then did the same here in Russia as well. She was the favorite in all qualifying matches this year. 

She is now to face Ostepenko, whom she beat in both H2H matches (one from clay court which Voegele won in third set TB). Both of their matches were played in 2015. The last one is from Linz indoors. Ostapenko was Top 100 back then, Voegele was not in Top 150. 

This and last season she is 1-12 against Top 50 players (17-24 from her best seasons of 2013 and 2014, just for comparison's sake). The Swiss has over 100 indoor wins in her carrier.

The Latvian will probably dwell on the third set from the Pliskova match at AO for a long time. Ostapenko had a 5-2 lead and two serves for the match but she didn't make it:

- I could not hit the first serve. She's a great server as well and I felt a lot of pressure. I realized that it could get rough if I don't keep my serve. My team told me that I cannot be sad but happy for displaying a good game. 

Two years ago, Ostapenko won the ITF title in St. Petersburg and played Quebec final the same year. She played Katowice final last year but lost to Wickmayer, Sorribes Tormo and Janković at the other three tournaments. 

She is 6-6 against players outside of Top 100 this and last season.
