Monfils 12-2 against the German, but their matches were often close

He decided to wait for the Grand Slam to start this season. There was some uncertainty about him game before the Vesely match but it soon got obvious that he picked up where he left off last season.

Dolgopolov had a chance to see that for himself in the second round. Monfils had a tougher task with him. Dolgopolov managed to win set three after losing the first two. He went all in in the third one and it paid off. However, his good game didn't last long.

- I wasn't worried because I knew it will be very tough to keep that up for over 20 minutes. I put more pressure on him in the 4th set and it all ended well - the Frenchman said. He finished the match with 17 winners and 37 unforced errors.

Either way, he has had a good start to the tournament. His 19 hard court wins in the 21 matches against players ranked 31-50 over the past year sound good. He was 18-1 against players ranked 21-50 over that same period of time. 

Kohlschreiber

He used to be a top 20 player. He didn't exactly have the best season but he did open this one rather well. He got his game up in the second round after some problems against Basilashvili. There was some uncertainty only in the first set against Young. After that, Kohschreiber took control. It was a convincing and deserved win in which he broke his opponent 7 times, while dropping just one service game.

- I played at a high level. The beginning wasn't top level but I took control later on - the German said.

After those expected wins, he will play a different kind of match against Monfils. This will be their 15th meeting. The Frenchman is 12-2 but he won in straight sets only three times. Let's just add that Kohlschreiber is 10-45 against Top 10 players on hard court. He is 0-4 last season and hasn't won a single set, not counting Berdych's retirement.
