Pavlyuchenkova after her first Grand Slam semifinals

She is 0-3 in Grand Slam quarterfinals, Venus is 20-16. However, Venus had no proper challenge so far since she had to beat just one Top 100 player to get here (Duan), while Anastasia beat Svitolina and Kuznetsova in the last 2 rounds

She didn't drop a single set on her road to the quarterfinals but we can't really say that she didn't have problems. The Barthel match was no different. There were many ups and downs in the first set, especially on serve. The American won the second one, not allowing the German any break points. That was a great period for her but we need to say that she hit 7 double faults, served below her usual level, and there was again the question of her elbow, which forced her to retire in Auckland and pull out of AO doubles. 

- It was not an ideal start to the season, I have to admit that I feel a bit uncomfortable. I am excited, I would never retire, I don't know. Conditions were different in Auckland. I feel good, thanks - Venus said.

Either way, she reached quarter finals. Interestingly, she will face another hard hitter after Duan and Barthel. 

- I know her game. I played a lot of matches here and the approach is different. But I know her. I know what to expect and what to do before the match starts - Venus said.

Pavlyuchenkova

Even though that was not expected, Anastasia beat Kuznetsova rather easily. Sveta seems to have been more tired after a more demanding third round match. Pavluychenkova did her part brilliantly and beat another compatriot this season (after the win over Svitolina). She can be really happy. 

- I'm shocked in a way but I'm also very happy. Finishing the match was very tough, we were both very nervous. We played in Sydney recently and I won. This was a new day, a new match and a new court - the Russian said.

She played 3 Grand Slam quarterfinals and has lost all three to Serena Williams. She met Venus five times and lost 3 matches but they haven't met since 2014.
