Antwerp won by 3 points on Sunday which means Novgorom will have to win by 4 or more today if they want to reach 3rd qualifying round. The Russian team had a lead for 35 minutes in the first leg and +9 in the last quarter. Coach Lukic said that his play was to limit the Belgian under 80 points but they ended up allowing them 90. Antwerp barely won even though their two-points shooting was 65 percent and total of 52 from the floor. Russian's offensive potential is not questionable but I think there is quite a lot of room for improvements in defense compared to the first leg. I don't think the Giants will be at similar number offense-wise. The Russian beat Bayern, Besiktas, Krka, Union Olimpoka and Tofas in preseason. They also stood up to Banvit in Turkey and managed to do well defensively in most of preseason games.
Antwerp should not be underrated but they displayed shortcomings in the first qualifying round against Lulea. They got the win in Sweden in the last minute and then won by 9 home. Things were more difficult than the final result suggests. It's possible they will be without the important guard Kalinski today. In preseason games with better teams they had a loss to Gravelines by 7, to Telekom by 11 and a 1-point win over Frankfurt.
I think Nizhny have more room for progress compared to Antwerp and the first game. I expect the Russian team to reach the next stage. Going with a handicap win at Novgorod. Antwerp will have to settle for the FIBA Europe Cup the rest of the season.
