Unlike last weekend when they beat the Netherlands (70-37), Hungary (57-46) and the Czech Republic (73-65), the Italians cannot be happy with their performances in the past two days. They were defeated rather easily to Ukraine at the start (82-75) and lost relatively important Leonardo Candi in the process. He didn't play Israel yesterday and his team lost 74-66. The final score might not reveal that the game was actual quite close but the fact remains, Israel were in the lead most of the time. Greece, on the other hand, made amends for the surprisingly high defeat to Israel (68-81) at the start. They trashed Ukraine 90-40, forcing them into 30 turnovers and limiting them to 32-percent shooting. I will focus on total points here, which is in my opinion set rather high (137,0). Greece have a massive defense potential even without Papagiannis. They went well under this margin in 3 out of 4 test games (58-69 defeat to Germany, 65:57 win, 81:68 defeat to Israel and 90-40 win over Ukraine. Two years ago, U18 stayed under in all 9 games. They played Italy and won 63-52 at that competition. A lot of players from that game will be there today. However, Italians are without two top scorers from that game but they scored only 11,2 and 9,4 points. Italy played rather good defense so far. The last two games are a problem. At the aforementioned U18 championship they had overs against Russia (82-67), Ukraine (87-69), Lithuania (77-70) and Finland while they stayed under against Turkey (49-48), Russia (63-54) Greece (63-52), Bosnia (72-59) and Croatia (73-57). Overall, I think we have every reason to believe this will be a tough game with not many points.
