Juventus - Napoli (3:1)

Juventus after their 3rd straight Cup final

  • Published:

Allgeri has no need to change his lineup after the recent wins in Champions League and Serie A

Juventus are on a 9-game winning run (all competitions) ahead of the Cup semifinal first-leg meeting with Napoli. Following the visiting triumph in Champions League over Porto, they went on to beat feeble Empoli in Serie A rather easily to record a staggering 30th straight Serie A home win. In spite of brilliant results, the Italian media have been speculating about Allegri's potential departure at the end of the season. His recent conflicts with Dybala, Lichtsteiner and Bonucci suggest that things are not ideal on the team. In spite of that, Juventus are having a great season. They are 8 points ahead of Roma in Serie A, have basically secured CL QFs and are seem to be doing just fine in the Cup.

Allegri was careful when talking about Cup first leg:

- Napoli will be very angry after the defeat to Atalanta. We're in for a very complicated game. We need to create the right conditions to make it in the final. That would be our third straight semifinal and the most important thing is no conceding a goal, especially because we play the first game home.

As center backs Chiellini and Barzagli recovered from their respective injuries, Juventus are complete. Allegri is not expected to rest their stars in this game. The only exception could be Buffon, who might sit this one out. Neto is expected to start instead.

A home defeat to Atalanta crushed that little hope Napoli had of joining the race for the title. The visitors stopped Napoli from getting close to their goal, while threatening from counter-attacks. The unexpected hero was center back Caldara who scored both goals in the game. Atalata were short-handed in the second half so Sarri put Pavoletti and Milik on the pitch but things didn't change. Napoli were out of luck too as Insigne and Mertens both hit posts.

In spite of the defeat, Napoli fans applauded Sarri and have clearly taken his side in the conflict between president De Laurentis and him. Sarri has not had a press conference for a while now, while De Laurentis didn't speak to the press either since publicly criticizing him after the Real Madrid defeat in Champions League.

Sarri will make some changes to the lineup that played Ataltana on Saturday. Raul Albiol and Koulibaly are expected to start as center backs, Jorginho should start instead of Diawara and we have to see whether Pavoletti or Milik are to start as the striker in the 4-3-3 formation. Sarri didn't take center back Tonelli and midfielder Allan (both injured) to Turin.
