Caen - Nancy (1:0)

Caen and Nancy have not scored in the last three games

  • Published:

Both teams are in poor form and they desperately need goals and points today

Caen have managed to avoid the relegation zone for the most of the season thanks to good home results, but even their stadium at Normandy has not been an impenetrable fortress lately. They lost their last two home games, and especially painful was the last one against their direct rivals, Lille. They had efficiency problems once again, for the third straight time they did not score a goal, and the new defeat meant they are staying in the relegation zone. Another rival from the bottom of the league table is coming to Normandy today, and a win is imperative for the home team.

Caen have been under a lot of criticism lately, and Patrice Grande took over the responsibility:

- I take full responsibility because I have to defend my players. I am the leader of this team and the responsibility for the results is on me. But I still have confidence in my players and I don't want to talk about the criticism that are coming their way. In this kind of situation it is important to focus on what matters, and that is Nancy and the pitch where we will show what we can do. We are under a lot of pressure, but the away team are in a similar situation, so I expect an even game that will not decide anything, but after which it will be easier for the winners.

Striker Herve Bazile got injured last week, but he scored only two goals this season. Midfielder Jean-Victor Makengo got inured in the same game, but he is not an important player for Caen. Before the game against Lille, Pape Sane and Ismael Diomande got injured, and they are out today as well, and they can also be easily replaced. Valentin Voisin has been injured for a while.

Nancy are currently in pretty much the same form as Caen, they also lost their last three games. Another similarity with Caen is that they also haven't scored in three games. Over the weekend they lost at Angers after an early goal.

 - We cannot let the same thing happen to us at Caen like it did at Angers. We were aware of the importance of the game, but we conceded from the first attack, and it turned to be the winning goal. We couldn't get back in the game. That happened to us against Montpelier as well. An early goal cuts off your legs and determines the direction of the game. But those are not the only problems we had. There was basically no defense in the first half, and a team slightly better than Angers could have destroyed us. On the other side, we created some chances, but what is that worth when we are unable to score - said away team's coach, Pablo Correa.

The situation with injured players is not good in away team either. They lost their standard striker over the weekend, Maurice Junior Dale, but since he scored only once in 18 appearances, that shouldn't be a big problem. Less important midfielder, Coulibaly, got injured in the same game, and a new name on the injured list is their third goalkeeper, Alexandre Menay. Michael Clarentin has been out for a while.
