Marseilles acquired Sanson, Evra and Payet in the last week

Lyon beat these opponents 3-1 at Gerland nine days ago but they will now face a different, much more dangerous Marseilles

Just 9 days ago, these teams met in the championship. Lyon won 3-1 home but the circumstances surrounding this game are somewhat different. First of all, this one is to take place at Velodrome. Also, the home team acquired midfielder Sanson from Montpellier, Patrice Evra from Juventus and Dimitri Payet from West Ham. Olympique trashed Montpellier 5-1 on Friday in the South France derby match and are now bursting with confidence.

Rudi Garcia sees the Cup as a chance for his team:

- When I took over here, I wanted to win titles with this team. Sadly, we were already lagging behind in the championship but the cup will be a nice chance for us to get a trophy. We are to face Lyon early on and I hope the fans will pack the stadium. I have the team that can do a lot but which lacks experience. That is why Evra will help a lot. This is our first big chance and I hope we can use it.

Midfielder Alessandrini will most likely miss this game but he has mostly spent him time in hospitals this season. Tomaš Hubočan, Henri Bedimo and Abou Diaby have been out from before. Payet held a press conference yesterday but we don't know if he will play today. 

Unlike the home team, Lyon didn't do well in the last round. They met Lille home to record an unexpected 2-1 defeat which saw them fall behind the top three teams even more. 

- The defeat to Lille just happened at the wrong time. We are all disappointed with it but there is no reason to cry. We are to play another important game and we need to turn to the future.

The visiting coach said this when asked about Marseilles:

- We played them some ten days ago but we are now to face a different team. They are much better home. We need to do much better than against Lille in the first half. We are able to cause Marseilles trouble but we need to be at the right level. We expect a complicated game but we have the quality to move on.

They lost defender Rybus to an injury this week. Diakhaby is out from before, N'Koulou is at the Africa Cup of Nations.
