Real have struggled quite a lot away against bottom-table team from Pamplona last weekend but they managed to get three points in the end to stay in top spot. Also, they played two games less than runner-ups Barcelona. The visit to Osasuna was not a tough task but the meeting with Napoli will be the real deal for all the Madrid fans. 

The first obstacle in their attempt to defend the title is Napoli. Zinedine Zidane has a lot of respect for the Italian football, which is no surprise since he spent a portion of his carrier playing there:

- Sarri's teams always play a good game and always try to outplay their opponents. They have been doing very well so far. They play a game pleasing to the eye but they are also very efficient. I appreciate the Italian football and I think it's at a very high level. They have a lot of talent and quality. We need to be cautious. 

- Real Madrid have been and always will be favorites in Champions League, no matter who we play. I'm not trying to say it will be easy but I believe we can get through if we stay in the game from start until it ends.

Croatian international Modric jokingly concluded:

- Thank God Maradona is not at Napoli!

He went on to talk about the game more seriously:

- We are the favorites but we were favorites against Celta too in the Cup and we still lost. This is not the championship, every mistake can be crucial. We forgot about Celta but we learned something from the two games and we hope not to repeat the same mistakes. 

Zidane has no significant injury struggles. Bale is back in training after being out for a while but he is still not ready to play. Zidane has everyone else at his disposal. 

Napoli's players are bursting with confidence ahead of this game since they recorded no defeats since October. In the last 18 competitive games, Napoli recorded 14 wins. After a record-breaking away win over Bologna, Sarri's team beat Genoa (Zielinski and Giaccherini scored).

Sarri talked about the greatest game of his carrier:

- Playing at Bernabeu is always emotional. My team has the attitude that we can attack even there. I'll accept any outcome but I will not accept a timid performance by my players. We are playing European champions, top table team in the Spanish League and world champions. We came to see where we are and if we can compete with top teams in the world. Realistically, this is an impossible game but I'm sure my players will do their best. 

Sarri commented on the fact that 12 thousand Napoli fans came to Madrid, just like club legend Maradona:

- We have not seen Diego yet but I hope we will before the game. I hope he will talk to the team at least for two minutes. He can give them faith and fuel their moral.

All of Napoli's players went to Madrid and all are on Sarri's list. Only center back Tonelli and defender Strinic struggle with injuries but Sarri rarely uses them this season. Sarri is not prone to tactical changes or changes to the lineup, which means Mertens, Callejon and Insigne will start in offense in the 4-3-3 formation.
