Plymouth - Liverpool (0:1)

Liverpool's rematch with a fourth-tier

  • Published:

Liverpool fielded the youngest team ever in the first game and they might as well do the same here. However, they did announce a much more ambitious and aggressive approach despite the fatigue that is a result of so many games they had in the last month

Fourth-tier Plymouth Argyle managed to recorded a goalless draw at Anfield Road to get a rematch. We do have to point out that Liverpool fielded their youngest ever team in that game but that doesn't make Plymouth's achievement any less significant.

A football festival is to take place in Plymouth tonight. A packed stadium will hope that the underdog can once again stand up to the favorites at least a little bit.

- This will be a great night for this club and the whole town. No matter how tough it might be, we will try and be focused - Plymouth manager Adams said. He will not be able to count on forward Goodwille and the very important midfielder Smith, who got injured on Saturday as they beat Stevenage 4-2.

- We seem to be in shape and we already played a lot of big games this season. That makes me believe we can put up a good fight against Liverpool again - Derek Adams said. His team lost just one out of the last 9 games in all competitions and recorded 5 wins.

When it comes to FA Cup, Plymouth played a rematch against Premiership teams 10 times so far and have never won. They have 8 defeats and 2 draws in regulation time.

Klopp experimented with a few juniors in the first game, which didn't pay off in the end. His team now has to play a rematch, which is potentially tougher.

The atmosphere isn't at the best level at Liverpool since they lost the League Cup in Southampton and have two straight draws in Premiership. The 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday against Manchester cannot be considered a failure.

Klopp's team had a lead for 84 minutes but then Ibrahimovic equalized. That goal is rather questionable, or so Liverpool claim. They saw an offside there but there's nothing that can be done about it and they need to move on. It was clear that they were tired in the last few games.

- We really need all the energy we can get now. We're a rather young team overall. We had a few good reasons to to go with that kind of a lineup. This Wednesday will be no different even though there will be some changes - Klopp said. Some starters like Mane, Clyne and Matip aren't at his disposal anyway, most others will either get a day off or sit on the bench, in case of a problem with result.

- We had 28 hots on target in the first game but they defended well. I don't think they will open too much today. They will focus on counter-attacking even though the atmosphere will be different in front of their 14,000 loud fans. With the right approach, we should turn the difference in quality into a win - Klopp said. Liverpool have no defeats in the last 19 FA Cup meetings with teams from the fourth-best league or those from lower ones. They have 15 wins and 4 draws.
