Phoenix - Minnesota (111:112)

The Wolves have a chance to 'sweep' the Suns

  • Published:

The Timberwolves have won both head-to-heads against the Suns, whom they defeated 98-95 away in November, and last month they defeated them 115-108 at home

Even though they are second-to-last team in the Conference, Phoenix Suns have realistic chances to reach the play-off. They are only three and a half wins away from the 8th position, but the impression is that their management are only waiting for the panic of the last hours of the trade deadline to get rid of their veteran players and completely focus on developing young players.

The Suns have a short road trip on the East behind them, they started it with a loss at defending champions, and then on Saturday they won at the Knicks, and the crown of the tour came the next night when they won 115-103 in Toronto. Earl Watson's team were behind for the most of the game, and then in the end made an 18-6 run and recorded perhaps their biggest win of the season, fifth in the last 10 games.

- I would like to say that we changed a lot of things, but we have not. We simply remained faithful to the things we know are working. All the credit goes to the players. They are responsible for this - said coach Watson whose team scored at least 101 point for the 8th straight game.

It would be a shame if Eric Bledsoe's great night was not rewarded with a win, he finished the game of his career with 40 points (11/17), 6 rebounds and 13 assists, and Devin Booker was behind him with 20 points (6/14).

- I suppose I was. I am simply trying to help my team win - Bledsoe said after he was asked if he was in the best form of his career.

His average in January is 24.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 44.6% shots from the floor, so it is evident who will be the main concern of the Wolves' defense. Minnesota Timberwolves are slowly improving on the league table, but not because of their hard work, since they won only 5 of the last 11 games. They were on a two game winning run at one point, and they recorded their last win on Sunday at home against the Nuggets 111-108. Rookie Chris Dunn played a big role, he recorded 10 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

- He is constantly improving. He has been good in defense from the start, and he is slowly improving in offense - said coach Tom Thiboudeau whose team limited 7 of the last 12 opponents to under 100 points.

Dunn will probably get back on the bench since Ricky Rubio is coming back, he got the night off to attend his grandmother's funeral. That will not affect Karl-Anthony Towns too much, he scored 32 points on Sunday (13/19) with 12 reboudns and 7 assists, and Andrew Wiggins was also good with 24 points (10/19).

The Timberwolves won both head-to-heads against the Suns this season, 98-95 in November away, and at home 115-108 last month. Towns was at an average of 25.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in both those games, while Bledsoe, on the other side, recorded 25.0 points and 6.5 assists.
