Atletico started scoring a lot ahead of the derby

Barca have a chance to reach the top of the league table temporarily, but their latest performances are not making us optimistic ahead of the game at Vicente Calderon

In previous seasons, Atletico and Barcelona's head-to-heads often decided the champions, and even though the team from Madrid will not win the title this season, we will still watch a spectacle at Calderon. Atletico are currently 4th and after Sociedad's win they are only one point ahead, and they are going into today's game after a convincing win at Leverkusen with which they basically secured the Champions League quarter-final. They are slowly improving their form, and in their last five games, they only drew at Barcelona in a game in which they definitely deserved to win. They have finally started playing well in offense, and in the last 3 games they scored 11 times. 

- We haven't had enough time to prepare for this game, but we are going into it in fine form and maybe the time has finally come to break the curse I have against Barcelona. I have achieved a lot of success since I have been in Atletico, but I have never defeated Barcelona in the league and I believe the time has finally come for that to happen. We had some injury problems for a while, but the situation is improving and we are awaiting this derby in great mood - Diego Simeone said briefly.

Jan Oblak was on the bench in Leverkusen, and it seems he could start today. Diego Godin is still not fully fit, but it is possible he will play today. Juanfran Torres, Augusto Fernandez and Tiago Mendes have been injured for a while.

The disaster in Paris clearly left a mark on Barcelona's players, who almost lost points against Leganes last weekend. Leo Messi saved them by scoring from a last minute penalty kick, but they were far from convincing. Barca are currently only a point away from the leaders and they hope to keep putting pressure on Real, but Luis Enrique's team will have a real test today. 

The only thing talked about in Barcelona for days now is PSG, but after Real slipped up in Valencia, Luis Enrique got back hope that things are not decided in the championship:

- Many are already thinking about the return fixture in Paris, but there is still time for that, and the Championship has to become a priority for us. We still have a chance to fight for the title, but it all goes through Calderon. We simply cannot afford to slip up. Yes, the home team are in good form, but we haven't forgotten how to play. We have to get back to our recognizable performance, we have to be the Barcelona everyone knows. 

Sergio Busquets will be back today after his suspension, and his return will probably mean that Rakitic will go back on the bench. Arda Turan has recovered from his injury, and he will be on the bench today, while Javier Mascherano is questionable for today. Aleix Vidal has been injured for a while.
