Juventus - Lazio (2:0)

Inzaghi believes he can achieve a positive result in Torino

  • Published:

Juventus are on a 26-championship game winning run at home

Last week when Juventus got defeated in Florence, the race for Italy's champions reopened since Roma are only one point away from the leaders. Allegri's team didn't do well in Florence, and so far they always won in matches like that one. Juventus could have avoided the defeat in the final, but Dybala didn't use a great chance Mandzukic created for him. A run of difficult games for Juventus continues with Lazio in the championship and Milan in the Cup, but luckily for Allegri both matches are played in Torino where his team look very impressive. Their 26-championship game winning run at home seems almost unreal.

Allegri faced a lot of criticis after the defeat by Fiorentina:

- The critics don't bug me. There were some when I was at the top of the table with Milan, and now there are some again when I'm at the top with Juventus. What I care about are the results. If somebody thought we would win 57 points after 19 matches, they should see a doctor. Winning is great, but you can't always win with three goals of difference and the championship isn't over yet. At this point we're at the top of the table with one less match, we're in the round of 16 of the Champions League and on Wednesday we're up for the Cup quarter-finals.

Due to suspensions, defender Alex Sandro and midfielder Sturaro will miss today's game, and Allegri can't count on the long injured defender Dani Alves. It is expected that Allegri will use the 4-3-2-1 formation with Pjanic and Dybala behind the goalgetter Higuain, but it would be no miracle that he starts the game with a 3-5-2 formation due to the absences of his best defenders.

Lazio look impressive this season, and Inzaghi's team lost points only in matches against Juventus, Roma and the Milan duo. Lazio started the new ear in a great way, since they beat Crotone and the strong Atalanta in the championship, while they earned the Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday against Genoa by scoring four goals. Lazio achieved all three wins at home, and now they're up for their first away game in 2017. In the last 12 head-to-heads with Juventus, they avoided defeat only once.

Inzaghi believes that Lazio can achieve a good result in Torino:

- Everything's possible in soccer. We know that we're playing against a team who won in the last 28 home games, and we fully respect them. It's going to be harder than usual, but I think we can play our game. It's going to be hard, especially because Juventus's players will be angry because of the last defeat in Florence. We're going to play open against a team who won the last five championship titles, and who are the favorites this season too. Despite this match, we're in a race for the positions leading into the Champions League, we want to fight for that goal until the end.

Only defender Basta has some minor injury problems, but the bigger problem is the suspension of the versatile midfielder Lulic and the absence of wing forward Keita who is at Africa Cup of Nations. Inzaghi could use the 4-3-3 formation, and next to Immobile and Felipe Anderson, we can expect the young Lombardi at the top of the offense. He left a great impression in the Cup against Genoa.
