    I have a feeling that the bookies set the odds at Burgos games based on last year's achievements. Burgos sailed through the second division last season but weren't able to acquire a licence for the top league, which led to the dissolution of the club. Everyone but Meresche left so they had to start from scratch. They started the preseason late and only because the local amateur team Miraflores managed to find a sponsor and get permission to play the second division. hey will clearly need a lot more time. They lost to Barcelona B home in the first round and Barca finished as the 13th team in the third division last season. Coach Casadevall says that his problems is the fact his players don't' have the experience of playing in Spain. Besides, they have only 8 players to choose from today as two important backfield players got injured. Nacvarra, on the other hand, kept all the key players.They managed to reach playoffs last season and played well home. Coach Lamua stayed and acquired some good players, meaning Navarro don't seem any weaker than last season. They played Palma away in the first round and stayed close for the most part of the game. But the opponents are one of the top contenders for promotion. I don't think Navarra are the underdog today, especially because Burgos are hit by injuries and have to deal with all kind of other problems. Details

    Looking at this year, Russia don't look like a trustworthy team. I doubt they could reach a medal here. After the terrible edition in the World League, they changed their coach, returned Tetyukhin, but they still didn't beat neither of the top teams of the World Cup in Japan. Now Tetyukhin is out again, Musersky returns as the blocker and Mikhaylov as the opposite. They have two receivers who didn't play very well throughout the year. Sivozhelez and Ilynkh will have a lot of problems here. Finland did a great job with the preparation matches and they were always very dangerous on European championships. In 2013 in the group with Slovenia, Serbia and the Netherlands they won 1st place. The most important thing is that Siltalu and Kunnarija are back, and they will secure a good reception because Sivula can't play here. The great Ojansivu is at the opposite position, and the experienced Oivanen is also back. They're playing very fast with Teervaporti and this is the key to the success of avoiding the Russian block. I think Finland can stand up to Russia and win a set, and this low margin can pass into an over and in three sets. Details

    I expected 1.50 for Germany, and Bulgaria will hardly reach a win here even though they will have their fans supporting them and their home court. Germany are one of the top teams on the European Championship. They have a very good coach and two excellent opposites (Grozer, Schops), and excellent players on all positions. Sokolov and Skrimov are leaving this championship because of injuries, first setter Zhekov is also questionable, but he will probably play. The experienced opposite 38-year-old Nikolov will also play - he had a very good season in Lyon, but I doubt he will play at his best. I don't know what to expect from Uchikov. Everything will depend on Penchev and Aleksiev at the reception, and they will have big problems with the Germans' float serves. It's tough to expect anything good from receivers Petkov and Gradinarov. These odds are equal because of the Bulgarians' home court, but I think Germany holds the quality. Details

    When you beat France and Serbia in test games and take two sets against Brazil, you can definitely say that that you are a good-quality team. That is precisely what Slovenia did. They have a talented team but didn't have a good coach. Andrea Giani is a good coach and I've seen a lot of Slovenia's test matches and I can say they are in great shape. Belarus, on the other hand, are not. They struggled with mediocre Russian clubs and lost to al kinds of teams. Coach Sidelnikov has a lot of young players on the team, 8 of which are about to play their first ever Eurovolley. Antanovic and Akhrem are gone. Sidelnikov said that if Slovenia play like in European League his team will not stand a chance. I think he really meant that. Belarus hosted those matches and lost easily anyway to Slovenia. They lost the first game 0-3, he second one 2-3 but by 25 points and even though Slovenia didn't have team captain Urnaut t count on. Belarus' biggest problem is reception and transition. Serve and attack are Slovenia's strengths and they will have a great advantage in those segments. The difference in form and quality is great. Everything will come down to Slovenia. I think they will open with an easy win today. Details

    Czech Republic are complete outsiders for me. Because of the weak reception they will have big problems. Opposite Stokr is out, as well as Konecny, and thus Finger will take that position, but he can't play on that level. The Dutch have a very good team, after the first win against the Czech in this group they have at least the third place and they can relax against Germany and Bulgaria, whom they can surprise on a good day. They have a long roster and I expect them to win 3-0. Because of the dangers of the first matches, I take the point handicap here which is low enough to pass in four sets. Details
