Valenciennes started the season with a weakened squad, they lost some 15 players upon elimination. Their negative starting run is logical, but their last away game at Auxerre (2-1) showed that things are slowly setting into their place. Now they got 2 more weeks to organize their game and two quality replacement are ready for their debut (Laquait and Sigamary Diarra) and I think they are considerable favorites against Creteil at Hainaut.
The only game the visitors lost was their opening game against Tours but they were far from great: their win against relegation candidates Chateauroux, draw against Laval, Niort and Havre and two narrow defeats against lower division clubs in the club. They are coming to Valenciennes without their best club duo - midfielder N'Doye and winger Lesage, along with full-back Ilunga, midfielder Seck and forward Sangare. The hosts are missing full-back Guihoata and midfielder Baradji, both of whom are replaceable. Details

Playing a counter on Skive is still viable in this period, primarily due to their dense schedule, with four matches in a period of 10 days for both teams but Skive had one less day of rest and will have their second back to back away match in just two days, while Odense will be playing their third home game in a row. The second factor are the injuries troubling Skive prior to this match. With three players on the injury list being two backs and one winger, and the injured left back Jurišić being one of their best players, one more player from the rest of the roster is also in question. Odense won two matches against teams that seem better than Skive this year, the team has not changed significantly during the break, have no injury issues and have not traveled at all, having played three home matches in a row. The only concern is their inconsistent performance, but even with just 30 minutes of quality handball they managed to beat Nykobing by +7 in their last match, while they had +6 after the first half against Aarhus, who are the hit of the start of this season. As long as such margins against Skive are on offer where a + 5-6 goals are required, they're playable with this stake. Details

Barcelona and Al-Sadd played a match in the first round and Barcelona won by 9 goals. Even though my margin was 10.5 goals, I think it was a great bet as Barcelona were up by 11 goals near the end but got too lax. The margin is now 2 goals lower but I would personally take the same margin, if not even a higher one. Realistic difference between these two teams, if Barcelona go in with full force, is some 15-20 goals. The only downside that has prevented me from putting 1-2 units more is the fact that Al-Sadd are the hosts and Barcelona might not want to demolish the hosts in front of their fans. But if they were able to beat them by 9 goals in the first round, they should do so again as Barcelona have tuned up and Al-Sadd have worn themselves out. Details

Last season, all 3 matches of these two teams went over this margin (70, 59, 56) and Drott's coaching staff said they would play even faster this season. This is perfectly logical as they can't play any other way. They have a team filled with technically gifted fast players and offense is the only thing they will be able to use to match other teams in Elitserien. Their defense has lost whatever quality they had (Lofgren retired) and it's no wonder Drott's general rehearsal saw 71 goals, and the game before saw 64. They played those matches against Aranas and Skovde, who prefer slower games if the opponents allow it. Drott obviously don't think about playing such a game against anyone and I don't think Ystads would want a slow game anyway. Their coach Seiffert wanted a much more efficient performance after the rehearsal and I think there's no better team for that than Drott. The hosts are terrible in defense, YIF are coming with what might be the most powerful pivot in the league (Bager) and great back court (Borgstedt, Ibsen, Sjoberg) renowned for having a great shot and ability to pass a good ball to the pivot or wings. So, the hosts are facing a triple danger at almost every moment and I don't think they will be able to defend from that. Even if they could, it's clear they will rush to the other end with full force and try to score in the next 5-6 seconds. All in all, a +60 match is on the cards. Details

Zagreb and Tatran played some games with over 70 goals so the bookies chose this high margin led by this information. But forget about previous seasons. Tatran brought a new defensive coach who has put a lot of emphasis on defense, just like he did in Grosswallstadt and Slovakian national team. In addition, the Slovakians are coming after a series of poor results and will want to play a good game which means not trying to outrun young Zagreb players as that wouldn't end well. On the other hand, we have Zagreb with all the limitations of their back court Obranović - Josip Valčić - Stepančić. The injuries of Mandalinić and Vuglač affect their rotation and it has to be felt. On the other hand, their defense relies on Tonči Valčić, Obranović, Šušnja, Čorić, the boys who will primarily try to stop shooters Rábek and Krištopans. If this happens, they won't be able to take too many risks in offense as they will be destroyed by counter and we should see more actions against organized defense then in previous games. Details

Even though the Israelis are trying to depict Botzer as a talented player, he just isn't that. he's turned 20 and has never been in Top 550. He once got a wild card for domestic challenger and failed to pass the challenger qualifications in France. He lost convincingly against Marti in the first round. He won a single break chance. He's above the futures level but he still hasn't won a futures title and no results despite playing in weak competition. He's had a couple of forfeits this season and I doubt he has the power to win a best-out-of-five match, especially in the hot Sunrise conditions. He will have the support, but this is actually a neutral turf. Mayer should be able to win this with authority. I expect him to storm through at least one set, which should be enough for this to go through, despite the fact that the young Israeli should get no more than 2 games per set. Best of all, he wasn't their first plan. He's a replacement for Wintraub who trained with the team the entire time. So, a debut player without an ATP or DC match in his career and with only 1 challenger match in USA, playing in USA instead of Israel, facing Mayer who's in great form on all surfaces. This should be a trashing. Details

All things considered, I'll have to back El-Jaish with a small stake. Flensburg are riddled with injuries, with something like 10 players available for the second match in 24 hours and their fifth in six days. Fatigue will certainly be an issue, and yesterday's defeat against Al-Sadd will certainly influence their concentration as well. The Germans beat El-Jaish 29-24 a few days ago, but the end result does not come close to depicting how hard Vranješ's team had to work. The final +5 was also their biggest lead, with El-Jaish at just -1 with five minutes to go. The team from Qatar lost to Barcelona yesterday, but it was clear they missed their chance against Flensburg. Now they're getting a chance for payback, and I think they'll be more motivated to fight for the third place. Our compliments to Al Sadd, but the fact remains they're only here because they're the hosts, and they took advantage of their chances in the final. El-Jaish are quite a bit better than them, and if Al-Sadd managed to beat Flensburg in such an important match, so can El-Jaish. Compared to the first match, they just need to take advantage of their chances, and I believe they will have plenty. The handicap margin is in decline, and I believe it's not worth it to play any lower counterhandicap on El-Jaish. It's possible they'll disintegrate in the final moments as they did in the first match, but the odds for victory have significant value. In these conditions the Qatar team certainly have more than a 15% chance to win. Details

This is a traditional bet when it comes to Wawrinka and Davis cup. It's incredible what stress he is under when he's playing at home. Gstaad was a constant trauma for him, he flopped in Basel and last Davis Cup match is also a good example. He played at home and lost to Golubev and allowed Kukushkin to take a set. He was the worst player on the court in doubles and I believe he will struggle again as that's always the case when he's playing at home. One blunder after another and Fognini is a very tricky opponent. When he's playing for Italy, he's completely focused and he's Top 10 material in that situation, regardless of the surface. I remember when I bet on Anderson at Wimbledon this year. Everything spoke in favor of the South American and then the Italia got a 2-1 lead. It was only his temper that saved the bet as he gave up in the fifth set. This is an ideal set for me. Fognini should be able to take the set. He could win the match as well, but all I'm interested in is one set and he can do as he pleases later on. Wawrinka at home is ideal for bets like this, especially when everyone expects him to win. When Lisicki plays her game the way that she's able to, few can stop her. She struggled with Niculescu, who is traditionally a bad match-up for her. She scraped through and then demolished Min, winning all 19 points on her first serve and losing just three on the second. She is filled with confidence, claims to have found her game again, and with her confidence is crucial. Saisai Zheng had a lot of luck with the draw. She came back from 5-3 twice in her firs match, and Wickmayer just ran out of strength, which she admitted herself. She played a lot of matches in a couple of days, and the conditions here are compared to a sauna by many observers. She gave away 10 double faults. Lisicki has momentum, she is the top seed and has waited for the right combination of factors for a long time. I think she will win this tournament, and the Chinese can hardly stop her. Cepelova covered this handicap last week, so can the German, definitely. Details

Taubate were quite pale against Sydney and their coach emphasized fatigue after the game. Brazil struggled against the opposition's organized defense and only 23 goals against Sydney is just not enough. They're facing a much stronger, better team that definitely confirmed their motivation to take the fifth spot. Esperance literally crushed Al Ahli in the second half and they knew how to punish their fatigue. They played in full rhythm until the last minute and had there been more time they would have won by 20 goals. This constant pressure shows their desire. Esperance were unlucky in group stage as they had Al-Sadd on the ropes but didn't know how to get the job done. Al-Sadd's win against Flensburg yesterday only shows how strong the Tunisians really are. Taubate and Esperance beat the same opponents and that's why we have odds like this but the Tunisians left a much better impression. Apart from their win yesterday, they only needed 1 half to beat Sydney while Taubate struggled until the end. The final +8 was the biggest goal difference in that game. They beat Al Ahli in the final 10 minutes and got heavy defeats against Flensburg and especially El-Jaish. Coupled with fatigue, the fact stands that Taubate will struggle against Esperance's defense and I think this bet has a huge value. Details

I've been following Rola and I cannot believe the things that man is doing in Banja Luka. First he had 20 points less on return in the first round, which is a huge deficit, and still wont he match, against Dino Marcan, a 'lucky loser' who took a set from him. Yesterday against Ramirez-Hidalgo it was once again an ordeal. It all looks nice, a clean two set win on the surface. However, Blaž saved 17/17 break points, 15 int he first set. The Spaniard gave only one break point in that period, but lost the set. Rola left a very bad impression overall. Against Marcan he 'should' have lost in two sets, and against Ramirez-Hidalgo he was circling the drain. I've been writing about Coppejans a few weeks not, and you can see him maturing. Last week he beat De Bakker, here he routinely dealt with Becker and Zekić in the first two rounds. His game is maturing and I believe the boy will end the season in the Top 200. The performance Rola showed in the first two rounds will make it very difficult to deal with the Belgian, who has good momentum. Although Blaž is the favorite here, I have no doubt Coppejans will take at least a set from him. Marcan managed that, and the Spaniard would have as well, had he converted at least one of the 15 break points in the first set. Coppejans is currently doing better than both of them. Details

I believe Nedovyesov is entering this match as more of a favorite than the odds suggest. He lost his rhythm by pushing ATP tournaments, but got back into his routine by returning to the challengers, with two clean victories against local Koniusz and young Garin. Arguello on the other hand had a more drastic decline, with just a few ATP tournaments played. He carried over that negative rhythm in the challengers, taking only two wins in the three challengers prior to Szczecin. If we rewind a bit, even when they were both at this level, the player from Kazakhstan was a better challenger player, and these tournaments got him his Top 100 status and the ATP tournaments he's been playing constantly. Arguello on the other hand got close to the Top 100, but didn't make it in there, which is the biggest difference between the two of them. What I'm trying to say is that these two are close in rankings, but their challenger results, and especially the consistency of their performances, are nowhere near as close. Nedovyesov did everything a challenger player dreams of, while Arguello yet has to. Even now, Nedovyesov is not in bad shape, with no fumbles over the last three months, which cannot be said of Arguello, who "owes" much more than his opponent. Details
