    The Portuguese team almost beat France prior to the European Championship, then defeated Sweden decisively in the 1st round, only to practically give away the victory against the Czechs with errors in the final moments. Then came a somewhat poor performance against strong Italy, followed by a very good game against Spain last night, with just a 5 point lag in the last quarter. Croatia lost to that Spanish team by 67 points. The Croatian junior team later recovered, but scored their only win against the Dutch, barely managing a comeback after lagging by 19 points. Yesterday against Italy their lack of true centers and bench players (no scoring for 36 minutes) really showed. Periša is injured, Rački is struggling with an ankle injury which then influences their perimeter game. The Croatian team have huge ups and downs: the Italian team, for example, scored a 26-0 series against them. The main Portuguese players are centers, at over 190cm, which could be a big problem for the Croatian team. Tomorrow's game against the Czechs will probably be more important to them, as a victory there certainly gets them through to the next round, as they would have a better mutual score against the Czechs and the Dutch in case there is a comparison of the three teams. The Portuguese will only advance if they win the remaining two matches. Portugal beat Croatia last year at the junior EuroChampionship played in Vinkovci and Vukovar. Now in Matosinhos they are supported by 2500 loud fans, and perhaps even more, which will greatly motivate the team. The bookies are offering Portugal to win with a -3.5 or -4.5 handicap with decent odds. Details

    Although Sock is undoubtedly the favorite in this match, I don't see this as a walk in the park for the American. Despite getting to the semifinal of Newport, he did not perform so memorably, and one must admit he was largely fueled by confidence gained at Wimbledon. Now he is returning to concrete after a long time, and I expect he will need some time to adapt, a segment where Gonzalez has an advantage. He played in the quarterfinal in Bogota, and is at the height of confidence. He also won their only previous clash (concrete), where we saw them play three sets, and I expect him to put up decent resistance. Details

    Their head-to-head played four months ago ended in 1-0. Bulgaria had 4 unders in 6 qualification games, Ukraina have 3 but all 3 against strong opponents: Russia 1-1, Scotland 0-0, and England 1-0. They went over in their wins against weak Estonia, Malta and Montenegro and it's clear this match is similar to the first category.
    A draw would compromise their chances of reaching the semifinals but that would secure their main goal - third place and a spot in the World Cup. Now that they have this first goal in hand, they won't risk too much until they get the secondary goal. Bulgaria have to attack but the first round has shown their liminations in that domain. Even though the Germans gave them plenty of space, they had only a few chances and counters. If they don't improve today, they will probably remain goalless but I think a goal on each end is a more probable outcome. Details

Gabashvili on the other hand is probably playing his worst tennis this year, and is also struggling with a leg injury. Last week he played in the Bundesliga, a match his team captain called a farce.     Rosol has gained some momentum, and that's the most important thing with a player like him He reached the finals in Stuttgart and then the quarterfinals in Hamburg last week. During those two weeks, he beat players like Kohlschreiber, Youzhny, Lopez, Robredo and only Lopez took a set against him. He's very confident and he said that himself. As far as Schwartzman goes, he's having a good season but it took a turn for the worse. The crown of his crisis is the defeat against Ilhan in Hamburg qualifications. Even though he's shown some good performances on clay, the Argentine has never justified his ATP status. On the other hand, Rosol is definitely that and he'll know how to make use of Schwartzman's flaws, and that is his physical inferiority in comparison to Rosol, and the fact that he has no real game-threatening moves. Rosol definitely has the upper hand here. Details

    It is really incredible that Nedovyesov to win pays with odds of over 3. Aleksandr already beat Haase twice this season, and his stronger shots were the deciding factor in both matches. He managed to take over initiative and dictate the match, which did not suit Haase. Apart from that, Nedovyesov is in much better form, with six wins in seven matches, while Haase shows rather disturbing body language in his recent matches. Apart from that, he offers too many chances on his second serve, which Nedovyesov will know how to use. I believe Haase will be further shackled by his recent defeat against Nedovyesov, and I'm convinced Haase is overrated in this match. Nedovyesov has already proven he can beat his opponent, and does not "deserve" for his victory to pay with odds of over 3. Details
